The hardest part of the installation was removing the trunk lid screws. I had to go to the store and buy a torx to fit my ratchet. On other trucks you take the back of the tailgate off, you unclip the rods from their brackets on the old tailgate and reattach them to the latch. Dakota's rear tailgate does not detach. You simply loosen two of the three screws and remove the third. From the front, the lock is inserted between the old handle and the back of the tailgate. On the back of the tailgate, simply use the supplied screw (not the old one) and screw it back on. That's all. The instructions aren't entirely clear on how to fit the lock between the old trunk handle and the tail. It fits right in the gap. After removing the tailgate trim and getting the torx from an auto parts store, it actually took about 5 minutes to install. And even for me it was really very easy.
