This tool has saved me a lot of money. My teenager accidentally flushed a sponge down the toilet. It took me many, many tries. I couldn't find my endoscopy camera so I searched blindly. The handle wasn't strong enough to hold the sponge alone. My success was also due to keeping the spring "outside" (add tension?) so the claw wouldn't come loose and let the sponge slip out of my hands. It worked great. The sponge was about 4 feet in the toilet. I had a dilemma. The toilet flushed, but much more slowly. I could flush or dip and hope the sponge goes down and hope it doesn't get stuck further down the pipe, or I could, I could hope, try to grab it or call a plumber to remove the toilet to get them to me. .Luckily, the tool did the trick.
