Samsung Jet Bot This is my fourth robot vacuum in the last ten years. He is by far the best in ability and second in purity. The first was the early Roomba, which I hated and returned. Then Haier, who also cleaned but was a bouncer who just went where he wanted. I replaced it with a Roomba 981 which, for all the noise it makes, cleaned my carpet pretty well. He erased the lines and drew a map that was completely useless other than showing Dad a nice map to draw. This was the loudest and had two levels of suction, loud and reactive. At least he picked up dirt and hair and he had a full bin, he told me to empty it. So with that experience, we come to my first smart mapping robot. Samsung Jetbot. Now the first warning I didn't know about until I took this model for review. There's a Plus model for $200 more that includes a self-cleaning base. If I were to shop, it would be an easy choice. I wanted one after three that I had to empty. My search continues as I understand that there is no way to upgrade this model to a self-cleaning plus tank like the Roborock S7. I really wish this path existed, it's a big oversight by Samsung. Another misstep is the release of this vacuum cleaner with buggy or illogical software and firmware. I have an ecosystem of smart things, but sometimes I just need a vacuum app that does what I need. Don't hit me, it's too late. The software leaves a lot to be desired. Firstly, some options are simply missing in the settings that should be available. There should be a long list of configuration options, and they aren't there. For example when setting the suction level, it's in there somewhere but I keep losing track of where they hid it. And where is the option that the green light is not on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? I have it in my living room next to the TV. If I want to watch TV in a dark room, I have to throw a towel over the Jet Bot or unplug it from the charger. Why? Just go to sleep and turn off the light. I'm thinking of wasting a smart plug to turn off the power at night on a schedule. If it were in the bedroom as a starting point, it would brighten the room. Next, I find bugs in the software. Samsung is a big enough company with enough software developers and enough good mapping bots to do well. I was so excited to finally get a smart mapping robot that my excitement dried up when reality hit. I've seen enough high quality software on other robots to know this is an incomplete effort. What drives me crazy you ask. I don't want the program to tell me it can't move the border. After the first display run it made mistakes that I easily fixed if it just followed where I redraw the line. He keeps telling me he can't share or edit a small space? The? Different areas are of different sizes and, like in an apartment, some rooms are not separated by walls but by floor transitions. For example from the dining room to the living room. Solid wood for carpet. So I drop the line to separate and... an error. Not a small starting space. Then I tried to set up the kitchen, the error does not work either. So my big dream is to tell her go clean the kitchen it's just a dream. Not that I was excited. The problem with the firmware is that it falls off my wifi and comes back over time. I have a very crowded MESH WiFi setup. Nothing falls out of WiFi. Fix this Samsung. The last thing to select are the touch buttons on the lid. It's very easy to accidentally hit one of them when putting down the trash can, and here it is! Another minus - I called Samsung for information about this model. The full manual on their website for this model leads to a dead page. The Plus model has a full PDF file. It's been almost a week and the link is still broken and I know the tech I spoke to was advising the webmaster. So that's bad, that's good. Be calm first. Where the 981 was a jet, it was hushed up. I can watch TV with his vacuum cleaner and don't have to blow him up or use noise canceling headphones. The vacuum cleaner makes noise, but that's more than acceptable. I think it cleans fairly well when the bin is full, but not perfectly. I'm noticing a few things on the carpet that I know the 981 has always had. The benefit of the software is that the zones are disabled and the spot cleaner units work. I wish the map was more realistic but I can get around that when it updates it needs to be updated. I am writing this at the end of July 2021. It is also good that it is not a cleaning robot. I don't want any robot dragging a wet rag across my carpet. I also like that it comes with an extra filter and side brush. Well, I only recommend this model if you want absolutely no self-cleaning. I think the noise level is great, the cleaning options are decent and if the software works properly it will be very manageable. I have a feeling this is a work in progress and I'm surprised by Samsung for that. At least the price is lower than some premium robots. But I would definitely consider others, and some of them have been in the robot game longer and it shows.
