Nice Invention: Fasteners

I've never used this type of screw before but I've seen videos of screws, their different strengths and applications and I've seen them in action deck boards. I was interested in the reverse top threads and thought they would work for this application. They worked EXCELLENT, better than I expected. The oak handle I made for the top of our stairs had a slight bend (1/8 inch) because it was made on a drill press that was far from ideal. The "adjoining" upper carving drew her against the wall. like magic. I used a size 2 1/2" - #6 - T10. I drilled a 1/8" hole in oak as the holes were so close to the edge that I wanted to avoid splitting the wood, but I drilled a 3/32 hole the pilot hole in the wall stud/joist I did NOT use a sink and it worked well and went fully into the wood surface leaving no raised edges. While I screwed the fastener into the wall, when the screw reached the top inverted steps, the drill bit slowed down and proved to me that the steps work against each other, thus pressing the wood support tightly against the wall, the head doesn't really hold the piece in place like a normal screw, it is the top reverse thread that secures it into the woods I love these things.
