Good first impression

I have had this grinder for almost a week and this is my initial impression:Overall quality is excellent. The construction is high quality resulting in a very solid build. The action is smooth and has a good feel to the hand. I brew using an Aeropress and as such dialed it it in for a fine grind. In the process of getting there I did more of an espresso grind in the early stages which took a bit of effort to grind but this grinder isn’t meant for espresso. Grinding for the Aeropress requires a…

Read blog post on setting grind before using

This is a terrific grinder. More on pluses and minuses in a moment, but first: When I first got it, I thought it was defective. I had used the QR code to go to the online manual, which I read entirely. HOWEVER: 1Zpresso really needs to include in the manual the grind chart, which can be found separately in a blog entry on their website. After a frustrating hour, and after deciding to return the grinder, I read some more comments here and wondered if I was doing the grind setting wrong. It turns

I was confused at first

I almost returned this after using it once. I am new to hand grinders and it took me almost 30 minutes to grind a chamber full of beans. I thought I had adjusted the grind size for aeropress coffee (15 clicks) but realized I ended up with a super fine grind which is probably why it took so long. Then I figured out that I need to turn the dial at least one full turn and up to one and a half turns in order to get the correct grind size. After making that adjustment the grinding process only took…

Far and away, best grinder I've ever owned

I was surprised at how this little grinder was both very small (great for packing with me in travel) and just the right size for making coffee in both pour over options and Aeropress. If considering traveling with a grinder AND desiring a fantastic Burr grinder, get the 1Zpresso Q2. If you'll be primarily stationary and not travelling, I'd suggest one of their larger models as it would allow for a greater grind amount and quicker brew.

Cons
  • The stainless steel may rust over time

I love this little grinder. I use this at home or on business trips everyday. Really sharp burs that have lasted a long time. I purchased this about 14 months ago and have used it everyday once or twice. I estimate it's ground 500 full chambers of light roast coffee. The pressure needed to grind the coffee has not increased and the coffee is still uniform. A full chamber takes about 20 seconds to grind.A full grinder chamber is perfect for a single cup of light roast coffee (about 18-20 grams…

Solid Five Stars! for my opinion

I am very impressed by the performance of the 1Zpresso Q2. I can only find positives with it after a full week of daily use sometimes three times per day. Perhaps the only negative is that the instructions on adjusting the grind give the impression that counter-clockwise rotations give a finer grind, but the opposite is actually true. Do as the instructions say and tighten the grind setting all the way down with clockwise rotations, but then know that as you loosen up the setting going…

Great quality! in my review

Amazing build quality and high quality materials. It is a pleasure to use, and feels like it will be very durable! The conical burr may wear out quickly with frequent use.

Pros
  • The compact size of the Q2 makes it ideal for travel, camping, and other outdoor activities where you need a quick cup of coffee
Cons
  • The conical burr may wear out quickly with frequent use

Amazing Little Grinder

Quickly and consistently grinds up to 18-20g of beans. Very impressed. Perfect for traveling or camping or single user.

Cons
  • The lack of a catch tray may create a mess during grinding

good travel companion

The size is good for traveling if you do your own coffee wherever you go. Grinding is easy with excellent bur and handle design. However, it's difficult to adjust coarseness. What I got may be the previous version by comparing with the photo of current one. I saw the current one has better index on coarseness adjusting dial. Mine has to try and error to find the suitable coarseness for pour over (I usually use). Another thing is the fine powder seems a little bit more when grinding. Hopefully…

The Comadante C40 at 1/3 of the price

The heptagonal version is basically the same thing as the Comadante C40 just a tad smaller, at 1/3 of the price. Super sturdy. Well built. Great value.

Cons
  • It may require frequent cleaning and maintenance

Quality, but not a good range in grind.

This is a very quality piece of equipment, grinding is smooth as all get out and it does espresso very well. However that's about all it can do. I like a range of grinds, I use everything from espresso to pour over and French press, but this can't grind course enough for that. While it is also nicely compact, it is a bit heavy for travel and considering those two things I think it's a bit over priced. If you're traveling in a plane or a car and only want espresso, this is the best quality piece…

Pros
  • Unlike other manual grinders, the Q2's handle is designed to be comfortable to use, even when grinding large quantities of coffee
Cons
  • The small size may cause it to get lost or misplaced easily

This is a good solid grinder if you stick to only one type of brewing (it grinds fine grounds for aeropress, for example), but if you toggle from one type of brew to another (say cold brew or french press), good luck figuring the dial out. Grinding becomes a frustrating, not a calming morning ritual. I want only one grinder for all my coffee needs, so I invested in this compact grinder. But instead I am looking at cheaper second grinder that makes toggling from one brew to another easier.

Wow, skeptic turned evangelist

$90 is a lot for a coffee grinder I know, but as pseudo coffee snobs who travel almost every weekend and camp close to a month a year, this was well worth it. We hate hotel coffee and find Starbucks and alike to be overpriced and typically bad too so we brew our own coffee while traveling.Pro tip setup below:For our hotel set-up, we use a .6 quart collapsible kettle (boils water in 3 min), gci java drip collapsible coffee filter holder, #4 cone filters, and organic locally roasted beans. We…

Incredible! And capable of espresso!

This grinder is absolutely incredible in the build quality. This blows the javapresse grinder out of the water. It can totally grind fine enough for espresso, my first try with it it was actually too fine and the water wouldn't go through the grounds and I got to see my 9baristas pressure release valve in action which was terrifying. I had to go coarser to be able to pull a shot so yes this can easily do espresso, don't listen to all the comments saying you need the jmax this little guy is…

Pros
  • The Q2's stainless steel construction is durable and built to last, making it a great investment for any coffee lover who wants a reliable grinder that will stand the test of time
Cons
  • The assembly process may be time-consuming and require additional tools

Best inexpensive compact brew grinder

I believe this is currently the best grinder on the planet if you want a compact grinder that makes small dose brews. It is under $100 but makes pour overs and Aeropress as well as grinders that cost much more. Fits inside an Aeropress so it's great for travel. If you want something for home to use every day, you might prefer a JX or get a K series if you can afford it. But for travel, this is the compact grinder you want.

Pros
  • The Q2's price point is affordable compared to other high-quality manual grinders, making it accessible to coffee lovers on a budget
Cons
  • The internal adjustable setting may require experimentation to find a suitable grind size

Fits in an aeropress

It fits in the plunger of an aeropress, it’s a bit narrower and taller than a porlex mini, and the ground catcher threads on the body so it can’t get stuck in said plunger. Bean capacity is about perfect for an aeropress. Build quality is awesome, a joy to use, grinds the lightest roasts easily and consistently, ample and completely adequate though not infinite adjustments. I use it for travel. It is a little heavy for its size, but it puts the power to the pavement for sure. Also the crank is…

Very nice quality, well worth the price.

The grinder is the best I have owned and well worth the price. The Q2 is well made, it has a uniform grind quality that will not disappoint. The crank handle is well designed and does not work its way loose, unlike some of the other travel grinders out there. The 25g chamber capacity is sufficient for one 12oz cup of joe, but thirstier mugs will need more. Grind consistency is very good, however, the lowest setting is probably not fine enough for espresso purists.I travel regularly and find its

Pros
  • The Q2's portability and compact size also make it a great option for coffee lovers who live in tiny homes or apartments
Cons
  • The numerical markings may require the user to reference a guide for accuracy
