Special ball joint for Equal-i-zer clutches.

This is an almost essential purchase for an Equal-i-zer clutch. The large shaft is ideal for hitching. Like the clutches, this one is very well made. Keep in mind that the towbar design requires you to have the correct outlet to install it. A wrench does not fit in the recess.

Shiny New Ball. - Tow & Winch Item

Ideal for Equal-i-zer clutch. Remember you will need a thin 1 7/8 inch socket to tighten to the EQ coupler. Fine. Others have said the socket doesn't match their clutch and I can see that depending on the cast there could be problems.

Pros
  • Well Built
Cons
  • Disappear

You need a thin-walled socket!

If you're buying this ball to use the Equal-i-zer 4-point hitch with sway control, be sure to get a thin-wall socket. I was unaware of this fact when ordering parts for this hitch and my husband was unable to install the hitch ball due to this fact. We called 10 different places and none had a 1 7/8" thin wall outlet. We had to buy another hitch to bring our trailer home. I will be returning this item.

  • Crossing my fingers
Cons

VERY CERTIFIED PRICE! Best outdoor accessory

There is no way around it. This piece of steel is too expensive. You can get a ball of the same weight or more for a lot less money, and I'm not even talking about "non-branded" options. Kurt and Reese both offer 12,000# balls at a much lower price than Equal-i-zer "sprinkled with Pixie Magic Dust". I think it's not enough that you spend $600-$700 on an Equal-i-zer clutch, they feel the need to rock you on the ball too.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Expensive

Specially designed for the equalizer clutch.

The tow hitch was deliberately designed by the manufacturer NOT to use other balls according to their specifications. The length of this ball and the weight it can support is not easy to find with other manufacturers. A smart move by the manufacturer, but PIA, if you don't know the manufacturer, makes this ball for your rig. Installing this ball was not easy. Make sure you know someone with a giant torque wrench and a large set of sockets if you plan to install this ball on your equalizerโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Brilliantly Made
Cons
  • Reliability

Mandatory for compensating coupling system

I bought a used compensating coupling that had an unbalanced ball installed. The previous owner must have made a sharp twist which then jammed the rod mount into the threaded portion of the ball shank. This deformed the parts and caused some scratches on the friction surfaces. I was able to fix it but unfortunately you have to buy a special ball from the equalizer to prevent this from happening again. I even tried cutting 1/2 inch off the standard threaded shank and it messed up the saw blades.

Cons

Specially designed for the equalizer clutch.

The hitch was purposely designed by the manufacturer in such a way that other balls according to their specifications will NOT be accepted. The length of this ball and the weight it can support is not easy to find with other manufacturers. A smart move by the manufacturer, but PIA, if you don't know the manufacturer, makes this ball for your rig. Installing this sphere was not easy.
