Sandpaper, good choice, did the job. Five thumbs up. There's a surprising amount of sandpaper stats, but in the end it turned out that what mattered to me was this: I didn't know what kind of roughness I wanted so variety helped, I could attach it to a Power Sander quite well and it's worked fine by grinding by hand. The baseboards have been repaired, the window sill has been repaired. Now if only I could get a paint shop to find the right paint color to match my existing paint.
