Description of 🎥 3M Scotch 5952 VHB Tape: 1 inch x 15 feet - Black

3M 5952 Heavy Duty Mounting VHB Tape is black, double-coated VHB adhesive tape with an acrylic foam core. A modified acrylic adhesive is on both sides of very conformable foam which provides adhesion to the broadest range of substrates/surfaces, including most powder coated paints. It comes on a red film release liner. 3M 5952 double-sided tape (heavy-duty 45-mil) gives you the simplicity and ease of a tape fastener and is perfect for many indoor and outdoor bonding applications. 3M double-sided tape (automotive, heavy-duty applications) can, in many cases, replace liquid adhesives, rivets, spot welds, and other permanent fasteners. Note: It is recommended to use 4 square inches of 5952 VHB tape for every 1 pound of load. Rough surfaces may require additional tape. Carrier/Backing: closed-cell acrylic foam. Adhesive: modified acrylic. Release Liner: red PE film. Thickness: 50 mils (carrier, adhesive, liner) 45 mils (carrier, adhesive) 5 mils (liner). Adhesion: 320 ounces per inch (to stainless steel test panel). Tensile Strength: 90 pounds per inch (longitudinal). Service/Operating Temperature: up to 250F. Application Temperature: 50F to 100F. Core: 3-inch diameter.

Used to install solar panels and a rear view camera.

Used to install solar panels and a reversing camera on the roof of my van. Make sure everything lines up perfectly before removing the backing though, as even after a few seconds you'll have a heck of a time to peel it back off.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Ideal for attaching solar panels to the car roof!

I did a little research and found a handy PDF from 3M that included a chart to differentiate their highly bonded products and decided to use this 5952 tape to securely attach my four Renogy solar panels to the roof of my sports car fasten . Delivery trucks. The tape works. The panels did not move under the sun, rain, sleet, ice, snow, vibration and strong wind.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance

Worked as expected: Painting materials and tools

I used this model to put a solar panel on the roof of my sedan. It worked as expected and lasted four months before being removed (scrapping the car). After calculating the wind force in pound-feet around my car, as well as the drag force in an 80 mph vehicle, I figured it would be safe enough to stay on top of the vehicle at all times while driving a maximum of 60 miles per hour on days with light winds. It took a lot of effort to pull this panel off the roof of my car even though the VHB tape

Better than screws!

My God, that's a promise! Use it to attach solar panels to an RV roof and panels to brackets. I've seen reviews of poor adhesion and wonder if they've read the recommendations and instructions for various surfaces on the 3M website. I use between aluminum and ABS plastic. Both surfaces are cleaned with denatured alcohol, scotchbrite sponged, alcohol cleaned again and then primed with 3M Primer 94. After pressure application and reasonable bonding time (up to 72 hours for full strength) these…

Insanely strong is good for paint supplies and tools

I am using this to mount 4 solar panels on the fiberglass roof of my van. Driven 500 km on the highway and in the mountains, no problems yet. I used a strip at the top to attach the rear license plate. One day, as I was leaving the gas station, I encountered a disturbance and heard a loud bang. The license plate was bent in half and the tape wouldn't budge at all. I'm not sure how I would remove it if I ever had to. rzunimag. I will cross this bridge when I reach it. Update - 2 years and over…

Excellent windshield grip in extreme heat and cold!

After speaking to a 3M rep, we purchased this tape on his recommendation to put dash cams back on our bus windshields. When we had to replace the windshield, we couldn't find any adhesive strong enough to hold the drive cams securely. It is imperative that all replacement tapes/adhesives are always peeled off during the hot and sunny summer months. But double-sided tape helps! We use this tape with 3M Scotch AP115 Silane Glass Treatment and the bond works great! It presses the drive cams firmly

Really disappointing

I've been using this stuff for projects for about 6 months now and it's just frustrating. Problems: - The plastic separating the adhesive material is very difficult to remove. In many cases it will stick better to plastic than to the surface you are trying to prepare. This plastic isn't the stuff you see on the back of a high quality sticker, it's literally just a sheet of plastic wrap with no non-stick properties. This stuff is sticky. Over time it seems to soften and loosen the grip. I got…

Great product depends on your application

I originally bought this to attach a bag amp to the foam insulation under the dash in my car. As expected, this didn't work (foam in general seems like a lousy surface to glue something to). However, there was no Velcro either, so I'm not deducting a star for that. I later used it to attach a plastic subwoofer controller to the plastic/vinyl fascia panel in my truck. He hasn't moved since then. So yeah, in the right situation, it works great. The price is not exactly cheap, but quite…

The red backing is not easy to remove

This is the first time I see this on a 3M product, if that's true? The red backing is difficult to remove, I understand it's quite difficult sometimes, but the first roll I tried was terrible. I glued the antenna dome to the Airstream TT and placed it around the base. probably 3 or more running feet of small pieces. I connected the cables and after cleaning and adding adhesion promoter tried removing the backing. Well that proved impossible and I stuck out a considerable distance on a 10ft…
