0.44 mpg increase BUT had to trim

I've been waiting to post my review so I can better increase the MPG on my 2016 Toyota 4Runner. When I compared fuel efficiency at 29,000 miles BEFORE installation and 17,000 miles AFTER, I saw an increase of just 0.44mpg. I would say very similar driving patterns between the two periods. So it would take 93,000 miles to recoup the cost of the filter. As for the installation, I figured K&N would do it so you don't have to cut anything, but I did have to cut the black plastic motor heatsink…

Pros
  • Everything great!
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

I highly recommend this product K&N

Installed this on my 2014 4runner in about 90 minutes. Installation was pretty easy thanks to K&N's clear instructions. I've driven it about 1,000 miles and noticed a fuel economy increase of about 1.2mpg. I drive 85% highway (70 km/h) and 15% city. As others have mentioned, I am very happy with the throttle response this gave me. I don't really notice an increase in overall power, but the RPM seems to increase faster when I press the pedal. I'm also pleased with the raspy sound the engine…

Best Recommended in Filters

The second unit I have bought and installed. Both gave me the results described. I got this for my 4 runner when I was going to tow a fairly heavy trailer for 1200 miles with my Can Am Maverick and knew it was going to need some help in the mountains. It helped as I had hoped. Most of the time I was able to maintain a steady speed of 70 mph. Of course there will be a downshift, but I expected that. Towing gas mileage was 14-15mpg, while I usually get 20-21 on road trips. As far as I can tell I…

Hot air intake with filters

I don't know why K&N decided to make this air intake suck air from the engine compartment. If they wanted to highlight a nice filter, they could cover it with clear plexiglass. It gives you more flow, but if you ever ride your 4runner through the mud you'll see why that's not a good idea. The entire engine bay is covered in dirt, which means you're covering the intake with dirt that gets sucked into the engine. Not to mention that the air in the engine compartment is hot, resulting in lower air

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

K&N fan performance / cold air intake. Toyota 4Runner Limited 2016 version.

K&N cold air intake for 2016 4Runner does not fit as perfectly as advertised. Parts are present and of good quality. The instructions were written by a not very smart employee. You must use the online video, included user guide and online installation guide to hopefully understand your installation. Nuts, bolts, and washers that K&N refers to as "included hardware" do not specify which nuts, bolts, and washers to use for the various parts of the setup. It's entirely up to you. Much luck. with…
