Don't waste your time and/or money! That does not work!

Zero stars! Bought for BMW X5 (E53) 2001. The cable is too short and won't snap like an OEM part. I spent hours and hours trying to get it to work but in the end it didn't even open the door! The distance between the two cable attachment points is too short, so the cable cannot fully penetrate the mechanism to release the door lock and open the car door. I should have known the price seemed good to be true! Aftermarket junk!

not ideal for finishing

purchased from this supplier after a review found there were no problems with this part from this supplier. Not true in my case. It took me 10 hours to do a 2 hour job. Things didn't go well at first. The rubber gasket around the internal mechanism was not cut properly and I had to cut it off with a utility knife. The hex screw will then align so that the screw can be screwed in. Then the handle doesn't go all the way through the hole. You can see where he rubbed. Tried cutting sharp edges but…

Difficult to install but works

People who give low ratings are funny. The difficulty of installing this item has nothing to do with the item. BMW is to blame for everything! Yes, it was a nightmare to install, but guess what, it works great. A few tips from my setup getting the ball off the line to attach it to the latch was hell I would recommend attaching it first before attaching the handle inside very tight. Also, when attaching the white plastic cable to the mount, I tore my hands to shreds trying to fit the plastic…

Not a direct replacement for

I just installed this right front door handle bracket on my 2005 X5. It turned out to be of decent quality, but the casting is very sloppy. I had to file in many places to get the handle to fit. I also had to heavily file the area where the back cover slides into the holder. The end of the cable was also very difficult to fit onto the door latch ball. It ended up taking 2-3 times longer than installing the original part. I'm also not happy with how low the grip sits, it's not flush with the cap

A job, but not a job for one person

I'm hesitating between 3 and 4 stars. 4 stars because my door is definitely working now, which is amazing, but 3 stars because all the reviews about some of it being too long are 100% accurate. We swapped the driver and passenger side door handles and it took twice as long (5.5 hours) because the longer 'cord' in the door (for lack of a better term) holding the ball joint holds the doorknob not let go. correct position. After a very frustrating time we finally got it properly seated in the door

The "Improvement " claim seems inaccurate

This part doesn't work for several reasons. The description indicated that some refinements or improvements had been made in the making of this chronically weak part. Some people have had to replace every grip frame on their BMW X5, so you can imagine an engineer redoing a weak point. There is no such happiness. It's still pot metal, and the part that snaps into place isn't steel, nor has it been 'improved' in any obvious way. Worst of all, the flex cable is too short and once installed (not an

Small flaw, big problem

First let me say this is a very good part and works very well except I had one downside. The cable was about a millimeter shorter. My photo shows the measurements and I believe the micrometer pointing the end of the cable body to the center of the ball joint should have been 2 inches but was less than 2. So? Doesn't matter? let me tell you After installing Part I, performance was tested before reinstalling the door panel and everything appeared to work as expected. So I completed assembling all
