ABUS Mini Ultra 410 Bike U-Lock: Optimal Security for Your Cycling Adventures Review

As a daily commuter, I found this U-lock to meet all my needs. It's big enough to attach to most bike racks and luggage racks, but not too heavy to take anywhere. It is durable and lasts a long time and is resistant to theft. I've used this model for 4-5 years with a spare after locking it for a winter (which has ended up happening to me with every U-lock I've ever used). All in all, I like this one the best.

Robust lock for good security when working. Less than a month later, the double locking mechanism failed. Only one side unscrewed. A google search for ABUS 410 ultra failure can lead to a stackexchange.com link describing the whole problem. After using Stack Exchange's recommended fix, I was able to unlock the lock, but in the process it scratched the paint on my bike. I lost confidence in this lock and in ABUS after using this lock.

I like this lock as it is well made, locks and unlocks quickly, attaches securely to the bike frame, the D-loop is big enough to put the rear wheel "through the triangle" to wrap and the tubing of most safety stays, and the cable is long enough (but not too long) to go through the front wheel, frame, and rear end. It's a heavy lock and cable combo but my bike is pretty light so it suits me. Review. :around)

Update: ABUS Support was very helpful and refunded my money. Maybe I just got a bad block, but I was happy to see that they endorse their products. The lock is light and well priced, but after five uses the locking mechanism stopped working at all. I could understand that if it was often used in a dusty state and jammed, but this was for my wife's new bike which she has ridden 5 times (in good weather conditions) and has been stored in an air conditioned bike storage room at our apartment…
