Yes, the new steering wheel again!

I installed this part when a friend told me it would reduce play in my steering. After installing this I inspected my old steering shaft and it turned out to be tight and still looked new so I was immediately skeptical and decided I had wasted my money. After test driving my truck I was amazed, my truck drives like new!

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Very expensive

Great remedy for wheezing!

This steering shaft stopped that annoying knock that is a common problem on several GM/Chevy trucks. I almost bought the Dorman brand instead, but settled on the GM version even though it was about $15 more expensive and I have no regrets. Tip: Purchase and replace the bearings/sleeve (Dorman 905-512) on the upper steering shaft as they will also wear out. This is a fairly easy task for a home mechanic.

Fits perfectly! - Finishing

I didn't want to waste my time saving 20-30 in the wrong place. I've read several reviews saying the aftermarket part doesn't fit or needs to be changed and for me it's not worth the hassle. The item only has 2 screws but it wasn't as easy as it looks. I can usually do small jobs, but for that I needed a friend. This job took 2-3 hours but I saved a pack. You must use the box/wrench provided and have sufficient strength. Fixed steering wheel slapping issue.

Easy installation for a mechanic with basic knowledge

The steering shaft, which of course belongs to the OEM, is perfect. It's easy to replace if you have basic skills and metric tools. As with most modern cars, removing other parts will take longer than fixing the problem. On my Duramax Chevy, I had to remove the large air tube before I could see the steering shaft. I also found it much easier to remove the accelerator pedal to access the top end of the shaft. Neither is difficult, just time consuming. This is the third countershaft and lower…

GM quality. Forget cheap replacement parts

The part fits perfectly as expected, as is usual with OEM parts. Installed this on my high mileage 2002 Sub to fix the famous steering column rattle. Just a tip, the connection between the intermediate steering shaft and the lower steering shaft is very tight. You can use a box wrench to gently tap the small flange on the countershaft to install it on the bottom shaft. A little muscle in a little wiggle and you can get it down low enough to stick a small flathead screwdriver in the hole where…

Happy 04 Avalanche owner

I have an Avalanche 04 z71 with 97000 miles. I've had this rattling noise in the front end for 10 years when cornering at low speed which sounded like I had a busted shock absorber or something, other mechanics couldn't figure it out. I started searching the internet for the problems I was having, many people said the plastic bearing on the column was the cause but some said this shaft needed replacing so I ordered both, it was hard work to remove them from the lower steering shaft, but I…
