I have never used them with a ring. This is too cumbersome, especially if you are embroidering a pattern with more than 53 threads! I give these 5 stars because they do what is expected of them. I like being able to buy floss and store it quickly (no wrapping). I like being able to see my inventory easily (I'm almost out of this one and I have a lot). It was easy to write a number on each package. Disadvantages (what to consider). Slightly high price considering they are just plastic bags (similar to lunch sandwich bags) with a hole and space to write the floss color number. I don't think I would pay $8 for 100 sandwich…

I have been using this product since I was a teenager. It is very convenient for me when these bags are put on the ring. I can create a "set" of floss for any project and never have to worry about losing or damaging it. I write a color symbol on each bag, there is a white rectangle for that. Because I use and reuse them, I write in the top corner. When I'm done, I can cover that icon with a dark marker and keep the packs until next use.
