Description of Actron CP7828A Professional Compression Tester

Actron's Professional Compression Tester Kit detects worn piston rings, burnt valves, and blown head gaskets on most foreign and domestic vehicles, small engines, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and ATVs. Convenient push-button side release valve allows repeated testing without the need to disconnect between tests. Gauge features a 2-1/2 inch diameter, easy-to-read white face with standard and metric scales: 0-300 PSI and 0-2100 kPa, accurate Bourdon Tube movement, and heavy-duty rubber boot. 17 inch, high-pressure, flexible, oil and grease resistant hose features a quick release connection at the gauge for faster, easier use. Includes adapters for most standard spark plug thread sizes: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 14mm long reach, and 18mm plus a handy repair kit with valves and rubber O-rings.

Pressure and vacuum tester compression tester

I am very dissatisfied with the quality of the product. The compression gauge inserted into the deep cavity of the spark plug for the fourth time did not come out. The hose clamp on the threaded end would not hold and I had to pull the hose off the tester's threaded insert. I was able to remove the other end with needle nose pliers. I was lucky enough to pull out the stake and make a tense moment. Now I can find a small clamp to reattach the hose and access the deep cavities of the connectors.

Pros
  • High marks for tester support and durability
Cons
  • Working speed

Works well, but beware!

As Lyle Josie pointed out, adapters can get stuck in the motor and cause problems. This happened to me when I first used the device. The solution is to make sure the adapter is VERY tightly bolted to the tester (you can even use LocTite if you don't plan on using other adapters) so it doesn't come loose when you unbolt the entire assembly from your engine . Other than that it seems to be of decent quality and worked great for checking compression in my S2000 F20C engine.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Cheap, very cheap Not for flathead engines!

EDIT: customer service for this company was ZERO. They just ignored me for a week and then after adamantly told me they wouldn't replace the faucet for 2.50 cents! That's pretty bad. I wasn't impressed with the quality when I opened the package. Faucets seem to be the cheapest thing to make. The pressure gauge is normal for the money and the hose is ok but the fittings are junk. I had to destroy the fitting and the threads on my head to get one of them out, which was very expensive. Another…
