Good in all respects, good for fish and aquatic life

I use this and other industrial wastewater test carbon as a finishing touch, we have used this in 3 different processes and it works just as well as more expensive brands. If it doesn't last as long as it normally does, the most likely reason is that it's being removed more and consumed faster. Additionally, pH is directly related to removal rate, as is biofouling.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Doubtful

Competitor 40 oz Better

I have purchased this product and Marineland Activated Charcoal. Akurel (90 oz) and Marineland (40 oz) are about the same volume. Marineland is $18. Marineland was more profitable because, after all, carbon is smaller, weighs less, and can hold more pollutants. I regret buying this product but I'm very glad I compared it to another of its main Amazon competitors. I will buy another brand in the future.

  • Great Price

Perfect for aquarium chemical filtration

I gave this filter a B because when I opened the box it had a bit of charred grass inside which makes me wonder what wood or process it was made from it was made. I'm a little nervous about using it given my find and also the lack of a seal on this jar. I like the feel of it, just need a little more security when installing something like this in a very expensive and fragile aquarium (nature aquarium).

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Concise instructions

Acurel LLC Premium Activated Carbon Filter

I liked a few things about this product. First, it was available. I use bio bags for our aquarium but the charcoal is often missing as I put 2 charcoal bags in one bio bag. I find this helps the aquarium stay cleaner longer. Secondly, shipping was free on Revain Prime. The product arrived quickly and undamaged. I would recommend this product to people using bio bags or just wanting to get aquarium products that are great value for money.

Save your tank, save your money and save the planet!

Keeps my aquarium clean, saves me money by reusing external filter parts and reduces wastage. victory in everything! My smaller filter has a little pocket lid that I can quickly remove and empty/refill. The other had to be taken apart and holes drilled in the plastic so I could sew the filter pad back on with fishing line. Such a container lasts months and months and costs the same as a new filter pack that lasts three weeks. As long as you're willing to put in the effort (which may not be much

Good size charcoal granules

I've used 3 different types of charcoal recently as I'm getting back into my aquarium hobby and both other brands had lots of fine sand with charcoal seeping through the bags and filter. Container for filters that I use. This charcoal works much better for me because the chunks are slightly larger and not much finer sand can come loose. In the future I will only buy this coal. Updated 8/3/2013. I'll like it for a while but I've noticed that sometimes I get orange stains from this product likeโ€ฆ

Oh what a terrible decision!

I got this because only 5 ounces of the Petco brand ONLY filled two thick socks. My goldfish tank has gotten pretty cloudy lately. But it wasn't the toxins as my test strips were good (twice) and my algae killer pills didn't do anything (when they worked great in my other tanks). Instead of paying $14 for 10 ounces of Petco, I opted for this deal. Oh what a terrible decision! I rinsed the first sock filled with charcoal chips for almost ten minutes and the residue still came out, but I put itโ€ฆ

Great for trays

It's just a bomb! I just read about using activated charcoal in trays to absorb odors and it works great! We have a litter box in the living room, den, and laundry room. I sometimes smell the litter box in the living room after a cat has used it, even though I use litter boxes with a door and a filter on top of the drawer. Since I started using activated charcoal in boxes I haven't felt a thing! I just sprinkled a few tablespoons into the filling box. Other people suggest making a pouch andโ€ฆ

This is my first carbon purchase for our tank so will update as we try other brands as this container behemoth wears out. We usually buy pre-made filters that you just plug in, but we've had the option of using filters that you assemble (Tetra 26164 Whisper Bio-Bag Cartridge, Unassembled, Large, 12-pack) and as I mentioned in In this Review, you really need to buy more carbon and ammonia neutralizing crystals (Marineland PA0382 White Diamond Ammonia Neutralizing Crystals, 50 oz, 1417-G) to make
