Description of Adapter ELUTENG Converter Portable External

This mSATA to USB 3.0 adapter is suitable for those mSATA SSDs that have been eliminated after upgrade. It can be used as a USB flash drive to expand your external storage space for your Laptops or desktop computers. Note: This adapter card only supports mSATA SSD (3cm*5cm), and does not support SATA Mini PCIE/PATA mini PCIE/RAID MINI PCIE SSD. Only fit for SSDs with current less than 1.5A. If it is a new hard disk, please format it before use, otherwise it may not be recognized by the computer. Adopt ASM1153E chip, Great compatibility, it supports 512GB SSD and all major platforms with great stable signal and powerful power supply. USB3.0 read and write speeds up to 200Mb/s +; Read and write speed with UASP can up to 400Mb/s +. Note: To achieve UASP acceleration, please make sure that your computer supports UASP. Currently, UASP-enabled systems include Win 8 and Mac OS 8&9 (the actual speed depends on your SSD speed.). Directly plugged into the USB port of the PC, no USB cable is needed, the loss is reduced, the signal becomes more stable, and the power supply is more powerful.

Perfect fit for FREENAS server

I have ordered 12 of these in multiple orders in the last month. My use case is to use two USB ports on my FREENAS servers for a dual mirrored mSATA drive for the OS, allowing me to use all of the server's drive bays for storage. mSATA drives are better suited for this than USB sticks. They all looked like high quality soldering and components. Only one out of 12 didn't work and at the price I just threw it away. I will buy more.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • For the old

Works fine but doesn't support TRIM

Since most will use this to recover data from old mSATA drives, I guess they won't bother with TRIM. I'm going to use it as a boot device on a popular SBC, so I need TRIM support. Tries to build udev rules etc. Nothing worked. I was able to find a newer ASMedia chipset firmware and that fixed the problem. So I'm giving it 4 stars, even though it was a little more work than I expected.

Pros
  • Annual Trial
Cons
  • boring package

Not enough chips? Doesn't work at all.

DO NOT BUY! If you look at the photos, a chip is clearly missing. Maybe the person responsible for soldering this chip was on vacation that day? I'm trying to find reasons why this might be happening. Except for the clear realization that their product will not work and a return is almost guaranteed. This isn't the first time I've ordered a cheap China part, but it comes chipless. Maybe they anticipate that some of them won't be returned because it's a nuisance or they shouldn't be bothered? I…

an easy way to create and store disc images in one handy, compact device

Ideal for creating small disc images for storage or multiple installations. Use this for specialized older Dell laptops. When I need to build a new block, I just plug in the Msata SSD. Connect it to my master image storage and write the image to the SSD via the USB bus. The drive is ready to install in less than 10 minutes and I don't have to fiddle with cables or adapters. It would also be great for backing up audio recordings if you don't need micro SD cards. The Msata are large enough to be…

Does exactly what is expected of it with no nasty surprises.

I picked this up to solve a (hopefully) one-time problem, but it's nice to know it's now available in my tool bag just in case. I had a tiny special purpose fanless PC that simply refused to boot from anything but the M2 socket and the OS had to be replaced. I ended up using this adapter to write the OS image to an M2 drive and then plug it back into the PC. It just did the job great. I have used this product in a Linux environment for those who may be wondering if it is suitable for Linux.

Incorrect product description and poor quality control

I ordered 6 of these to use with the 6 mSATA drives I had and decided to use them. As I opened each package, I noticed that one of them was missing a component on the board that the others had. If you look at the picture I've attached, you can see there's a component missing in the top left corner of the bottom pane. . Without this component, the drive will not function. The missing component was not in the sealed packaging with the adapter, meaning it was either never soldered or damaged prior

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive

Works well: Hard Drive Accessories

I bought this device to extract data from an mSATA drive that was in a small fanless PC on a website I maintain. The PC was a location-based firewall (running pfSense) and died. I worked for about 15 years, so there are no complaints. The problem was that I had to get configuration information from him. This adapter enabled me to do just that. The only problem I had was not with the adapter itself, but with the SSD, more specifically with the file system on the SSD. pfSense is based on FreeBSD…

Works perfectly!. #: Hard Drive Accessory

I got this mSata data recovery device from a friend because I didn't have anything else to connect this device to. As soon as I got it, I plugged in my mSata drive, screwed in one of the corner brackets and it broke instantly. The weld failed and one of the bolts fell out. Luckily this unit has 2 screw mounts so I can still use the other one until I solder back the broken one. While this product works as intended, works flawlessly and I've had no problems recovering data from my mSata drive, I…

The latter no longer use the ASMedia 1153E chipset! Do not buy!

I have ordered many of these in the past and they all come with the ASmedia 1153E chipset which supports SATA 3 speeds. My last order was on 02/24/2021, they are all now older ASMedia 1153 (no "E"), which means they no longer support SATA-3, only SATA-2. This means they don't work as advertised. If you have one with 1153 chipset, check the SSD connection speed. it will be 3 Gbps instead of 6 Gbps. If you look at the circuit board of the old 1153E compared to the current 1153, the EEPROM is also
