Great alternative to heavy walking boot

Having fractured my fibula just above the ankle, I was relegated to a walking cast type boot while the fracture healed. As my job requires standing on my feet for hours at a time - that was not the most comfortable alternative - and the difference in height related to my other leg with a standard shoe caused back problems. The Aircast Air-Stirrup Ankle Brace allowed me to wear a standard shoe while providing the support I needed for the fracture to heal. It also eliminated my back problems. I…

Pros
  • Braces, Splints & Supports
Cons
  • May be expensive compared to other ankle support options

Needs to be user adjusted before they work well

I almost didn't buy this product due to the mixed reviews. I'm glad I did. My ankles are worn out from 40 years on steel deck's and leave me in such pain that I can barely walk much over 100 yards without considerable pain. I've tied all kinds of expensive lifts and braces with little relief. Using a pair of these braces I can now walking up to a couple of miles a day with only modest pain. This is the good. On the negative side I don't know how long they will last and they do require a fair…

Pros
  • Helps prevent re-injury of the ankle
Cons
  • May cause discomfort when worn while sleeping

Comfortable and stabilizing

I sprained my ankle badly and ordered this brace to hopefully help it heal. Turned out I had some fractures as well and ended up having to get a full ankle boot. After I got out of the boot I wore this one again for a week or so while my ankle finished healing. This brace is very comfortable and keeps the ankle from bending side to side. It allows for up and down movement of the foot, so was great for exercising my ankle after I got out of the boot.Good product!

Pros
  • Allows for a wide range of motion
Cons
  • May not be effective for chronic ankle instability

Short strap on my review.

This splint has a strap that goes around the ankle area and another that goes around the calf. Both are the same length. The ankle strap fit fine and was easy to use. Since I am not built like Olive Oyl the strap going around the calf was too short and I had a heck of a time figuring out where I could attach it’s Velcro to hold the splint in place. I’m not impressed. Come on guys. No one has a calf the same diameter as their ankle. How much more could a couple of extra inches of strap have cost

Pros
  • Allows for greater mobility during physical therapy
Cons
  • May not provide enough support for athletes with chronic ankle instability

Good support But.: my feedback

Only 3 stars because plastic air cell/foam is very weakly attached with inferior glue to the rigid support and you're going to have to epoxy them in place after a couple weeks use. Also will need to replace mid strap with foot diagram on it with your own 1" wide velcro strap soon. That said, you need a stirrup design like this for anything above grade 1 sprain, mainly because the support goes a lot higher up leg and that helps a lot, even if you think the problem is just around the ankle knobs.

Pros
  • Reduces swelling and inflammation
Cons
  • May not be suitable for daily use

Wrong thing for me. I needed more support.

Not meant for me! I received a black ankle brace from my orthopedic doctor. I wasn’t having any luck using it. Went into see tech. Ordered this which was $50 less than my ankle brace. I have size 6 1/2 shoe size. This was a large. It hurt to wear it . Took old ankle brace and shortened strap by 1 1/2 " on both sides. Stitched by hand, works great now. It has a figure 8 strap on it. Something not on this. So the ankle support was less effective. It may work for someone who needs just ankle…

Pros
  • Can be used during any stage of the healing process
Cons
  • May not fit snugly around the heel

It slides forward- can't wear it

I love the design, the padding, and the quality. great protection but sadly I cannot wear it because it slides forward and the edges aggravate my recently broken ankle where the plate is.

Pros
  • Offers a superior level of ankle support compared to other braces on the market
Cons
  • May not effectively prevent ankle sprains

What I needed, for sure!

Definitely oversized - my king sized comforter is about 8" narrower than the duvet cover (maybe it's a Cal King versus regular King issue, I don't know). However, the length is good, and I just have the extra fabric on the side away from the doorway, so you can't see it. Love the fabric, washes well. And the color is great - goes well with a print coverlet set I also bought, so I can mix and match the shams and decorative pillows that came with the other set.

Pros
  • Can be worn on either ankle
Cons
  • May not effectively treat ankle pain

Perfect to wear with boots!

I can wear this in my boots and football cleats just fine. It doesn't feel too bulky, and you can adjust it to allow no flex or some flex which is nice. Now that my ankle is mostly healed up, I can fit it a bit looser to allow more natural movement, but yet still have support if my ankle wants to roll over again.

Pros
  • Can be worn discreetly under clothing
Cons
  • May interfere with daily activities such as driving or household chores

The best product of its kind

I have had this brace for more than 20 years (although I have not used it this long). In all of my basketball games not once have I twisted my ankle. After buying the exact same product I discovered That my old braces are not fit to use anymore and even though I have used them for many years I did not come near to a splint. If you play basketball and not worry about your ankles, do yourself a favor and buy these braces.

Pros
  • Easy to use and adjust
Cons
  • May not be suitable for individuals with certain foot or ankle shapes

Great quality for the price.

This was a great price for the air-stirrup. Understand that you will probably want to remove a lot of the air out of the two bladders. They supply a little clear flexible tube to insert into the air bladders to remove excess air. You will see this little end on the air bladder that is tucked toward the hard plastic. That is where you insert the tube. When you have adjusted the amount of air that you want in the bladders, you just fold the little end back over and it rests against the white…

Pros
  • Provides stable, reliable support
Cons
  • May not be suitable for individuals with weight limitations
