Working from template at Special Purpose Pullers

I used a Powerbuilt 648619 to remove the pilot bearing on a 22re/W55 truck. The puller fits (a problem I had before I found a suitable puller) without modification, but I couldn't get the bearing out at first. After 30-40 minutes of manual work on the legs to get the jaw bigger and closer to 90 degrees, I was able to easily remove the pilot bearing.

Pros
  • Tool kit to remove pilot bearing and bushings from flywheel when replacing clutch
Cons
  • Some mistakes

Not pilot bearing - may not pilot bushing - may not

I bought this tool many years ago because I knew I would need it. I used it for a pilot bearing (needle bearing) and it was absolutely useless. The two jaws are so weak that they will bend and slip through the guide bearing hole if you try to remove it. I had an inexpensive three arm puller with hardened metal rear arms that worked great the first time.

Pros
  • Plated steel and black oxidized
Cons
  • Hard to tell

Doesn't grip bearing ***Updated***

The problem is that the tool ends are rounded, allowing the bearing to slip. I brought him an angle grinder to get a little grip on his hands. After that it worked great. It's annoying that you might have to do this, but you get what you pay for. It's also the only puller that was small enough to fit in my machine's pilot bearing. It doesn't grip the camp. The tool just slides out when you apply pressure.

Pros
  • Designed to exceed tool standards
Cons
  • New competition is here

Waste of money best in tools and equipment

I needed to remove a pilot bearing from my International 484 tractor flywheel and the puller slipped out 4 times without pulling the bearing out. I filed the edges of the pull jaws flatter due to the chamfer they have and it still slipped out. Luckily after removing the flywheel I was able to knock the bearing off the back of the flywheel with a 3/4" galvanized pipe socket and a hammer. I guess I can't return the puller as I filed the jaws like other buyers. I would recommend the best puller if
