Alpinestars Balaclava

Fits my large head easily. Keeps me very warm and fits great. Tucked into my riding jacket to keep it from blowing over my shoulders in the wind. Also washable. Feels great when wearing. Very breathable. Would recommend to any rider. I ride a sports bike and wear a full face helmet. The helmet is easy to put on, does not stick or stick to the balaclava. Exactly what I was looking for.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Only available in black

Goggles fogged up when breathing through your nose

I was very happy with this, my current neck brace doesn't warm my face when the wind picks up in my helmet it works fine but if you wear goggles during you have to open your nose while driving, otherwise they will fog up while driving. It also restricts the movement of your neck a bit. If you pull your nose down, the glasses won't fog up, but then your nose will get cold. I tested it in 45 degree weather.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Some issues

Does not work with glasses

The quality is typical Alpinestars, ie nicely finished and looks well thought out. I think this works well for most people, but if you wear glasses, look elsewhere. It exhausts your breath primarily through your eyehole and thus right under your glasses, creating a nice blanket of haze in something remotely cold. Making the Zoolander's face and sucking/exhaling through the small mouth opening seems to work a little better, but do you really want to do that with every breath during your ride?

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Negative present

Ideal for winter and rain

Perfect. The key when it rains is proper drainage. With traditional balaclavas you create an entry point for rain to enter and under your waterproof jacket at the neck when you tuck in the balaclava. Layers, a warmer inner layer and a lightweight, water-resistant outer layer that sits outside over the collar, and Alpinestar has done it well. This thing has two layers and it's designed right. You can breathe a sigh of relief with it, I haven't tested it in the rain yet. The head area is very…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Currently happy with this balaclava

After looking at many balaclavas and reading various reviews I decided that this is the one I went for. I have been impressed with a pair of their motorcycle boots and cold weather socks and know they are an established gear manufacturer. One of the problems that many other brands had with their balaclavas was the lack of full neck coverage, both in the front and especially the back. This product has a good length and twice the thickness of the "skirt" if you want, and protects the neck area…
