Shoes are layered for men

Shoes specifically purchased for hiking in Philmont. Outsole and toe split after 63 miles. All the demands of the weather are not true at all. As I walked through the wet meadow, my feet got wet. I would not recommend this shoe.

Complete care of Lone Peak 4

If you like Lone Peak 4 Mid (Mesh or RSM), don't waste your time with it. The "shape of the foot" should be a thing of the past for the Altra. My Lone Peak 4 is one of the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. Same size, they are painfully tight from side to side, even without lacing. Complete FAIL.

Lightweight, durable, no complaints!

Altra Give away runners/travellers. I run 10km in them three times a week and they are holding up great! I run on very rocky ground and don't feel any stones, although they are still light and fast. I like that they are weatherproof. As for the sizing, I'd guess too big if you're unsure.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Wrong size on toe

Lone Peak 5's are great, the wide size they make is too wide for me so regular sneakers are great for a size 11. Got the new Lone Peak with medium shoes and they are narrow at the tip and do not widen them. I'll bring them back and hope they can go back to their roots, big toed boots.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Major flaws during first 15 miles

Although these shoes are very comfortable, they didn't survive a 20 mile hike on first use. A few spots of glue came loose - the first 2 can be seen in the photo - eventually the glue around the tip area came off almost completely as well. Nike Pegasus' hiking partner did everything I did and her shoes literally looked new when they were done. The lonely peaks of Altra looked like they'd been to hell and back. The design is good, but the workmanship of the pair I bought was extremely lacking…

Amazing Shoes: Men's

With nearly a dozen pairs of Altras in a variety of styles, finding one for yourself wasn't difficult. Last year he was running cross country in a pair of LP4.5s and he loved them so I bought him these for his summer camp stay where hiking shoes were a must. They're waterproof and have a nice lugged outsole, but are still light and flexible to wear all day without leg fatigue, which was a big plus. I've had the LP4 RSM for 2 years which he really likes but they aren't for sale anymore so he…

Like the Lone Peak 5 with improved ankle support

If you're looking for a lightweight alternative to the typical leather-lined Gore-Tex hiking boot, consider these trail running shoes from Altra. I've loved hiking with their Timps and Lone Peaks so wearing their mid tops was a relatively new experience for me. But I wasn't disappointed. These "boots" (if I may call them that) retain the great foot shape and comfort of their regular trail running shoe with the added benefit of a Gore-Tex lining and better ankle support. The balanced cushioning…

Decent boot, with issues

I've been wearing Lone Peaks since version 1.0. I currently have three pairs: two low cut (one waterproof) and one mid cut pair, as well as several other Altra models. I just bought ALL_WTHR Mids and found that the toe box is less roomy than the low cut Lone Peaks and for some reason all Mid Altras make a popping noise at the top of the toe box with every step. It's happening with my mid length Lone picks, my Tushars and now these. This is very annoying for me and my fellow campers. In…
