A knife with the worst edge can be replaced, sharpened in minutes with the right technique, and then sent to a whetstone in Arkansas for a clean edge.

Old school: power and hand tools

I purchased this as I was planning to replace the head gaskets on my truck. It's an old school hot rod " They use a rock on the block deck to clean the surface and place it on the deck before installing new head gaskets.

Pros
  • 12"L x 2.5"W x 1.5"D
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Expensive for alumina, not flat

Silicone curved stone versions available at half price; not serious but enough that it took hours of grinding with a diamond tool to give the stone a decent shape. I bought it along with a guide to sharpening wood chisels and planes. I would buy a diamond alignment system along with this stone as the "U" shaped shank came with it. She was only off three degrees, but still. for the money it could at least be flat.

Pros
  • Professional 240/120 coarse to medium grit combo stone for towing.
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
