Great USB port extender for external hard drives or SSDs

Works great with my Netgear R7000 router. I have 2 external drives, WD 4TB Easystore and WD 4TB My Book. So far everything is working fine in my network. It was just plug and play with Windows 7 and 10. Aluratek allowed me to put my external drives in one place for the whole network to see instead of being tied to one PC. I originally bought it for my Lorex NVR to run more NVR devices but it didn't work for some reason (probably a bad or broken port). After trying to find the best selection ofโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Infinitely slow

Big piece of iron

I was looking for a piece of iron to tether all my USB 3 devices to a PC and I found it! I wish PC makers would just reroute the two cables and give us more USB 3 ports, but my guess is the sales department. tells them otherwise, so let's do what we can (the difference between USB 2 and 3 is significant). I connected 2 external USB 3 drives to my PC and the powered hub also offered 2 additional ports for charging my wireless mouse and keyboard. Just plug an HDMI cable into my system and I haveโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

4PT Superspeed USB 3.0 Hub

Hub works great. The computer recognizes everything that is connected to it. I wish there were more than 4 ports. Sometimes it doesn't "wake up" or takes too long to wake up after sleeping or hibernating on the laptop in my opinion. Also, sometimes it stays on after turning it off. Not sure if these two issues are the hub's or the laptop's fault. 4PT Superspeed USB 3.0 hub with cable and power adapter

Pros
  • Good for many
Cons
  • not reliable

Great for extending USB 3 cable length

I use this USB 3.0 hub to extend the cable length between my computer at home and the Point Gray Research Flea 3 camera attached to my telescope outside on the back is attached deck. I use this setting to photograph the sun in h-alpha. You can see some of my sunny pictures on my website at [.]. Hub works great for this app. I can also connect other USB 3 devices to it as I will be adding them in the future.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • There are shortcomings

Better than expected

This is my second USB 3.0 hub (my first was from Startech.com). This one seems more consistent than the one I had previously. It also seems to work better with a native USB 3.0 connection than with an ExpressCard plugged into your laptop. Everything I use with it has its own power supply, so I can't speak to its ability to power portable hard drives. Based on what I've seen so far I would recommend this product to a friend.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • New competitors
