I know there are many criticisms of how the stop can damage the wood. This is true when running at full speed with reasonable pressure. The stop has a lot of weight and if you spin it fast it takes a little bit of friction to stop it. As a carpenter, I'm certainly used to being skilled with my tools and that's not a problem. Great tool when it works... unfortunately my warehouse failed after half a day of work.
Ordered after seeing it recommended by a YouTube channel. Excellent delivery from seller, ordered Friday, Sunday at my doorstep. I went to my garage and threw it in my drill bit to drill some test holes in a piece of 2x4 I had lying around. The third hole I drilled cut the bit about 1/4 above the countersink. I don't know what the drills are made of, probably a canister. I had to replace the bit with a good one from my Dewalt set.
Low Friction Free Rotation Depth Stop stops rotating freely once the stop reaches the material. The approximate number of times the depth gauge has distorted the surface of the material is around 90% for me. Grinding fixes the problem, but using that expensive countersink requires extra effort. I see no reason to spend so much money. Too many carpenters blindly support a product because of the manufacturer's name and don't give honest feedback on the product.
This is complete rubbish. I got it to install birch plywood and wanted to have the same depth gauges on my countertops. Right out of the box it marks the wood pretty hard. I've tried it on both birch plywood and pine and you can see in the photos I've attached the dark circles it leaves from the depth gauge. I even tried cleaning it to make sure it didn't leave marks and it still leaves those horrible marks. I can do better with a piece of tape on the side of my regular countersink to mark the…
Tool arrived on time, packaging intact. The supplied wrench makes the adjustment very easy. It cuts cleanly and the bearings allow countersinking without scratching the wood surface. The 1/8" drill will bend about 1/4" from the bottom of the drill. The bend was just enough to keep the drill bit from slipping through the depth adjustment hole. I took the club out and had to gently tap it on the anvil with a hammer to straighten it and use it properly. I intend to contact the manufacturer Amana…
Very high quality tool as expected from Amana. A notable improvement is the sharp cut when you want to drill a hole and fill it with a dowel. I have other countersinks that do the job well but always leave a slightly ragged hole. While this might seem like a minor issue, when it works like this, it's a sign of a quality tool. I bought some spare bits because Amana uses a short, custom-sized bit for this tool, but it's not necessary. The countersink uses a hollow shank so you can use a regular…
If I could give these zero stars, my drill bit would have broken on the 4th hole I drilled. Look at the photo and note the chipped carbide on the drill bit. Waste of $$$. EDIT: Thinking about it and decided the real problem is the cheese drill. Ordered another one, measured the hole with a negative pin gauge and found it was about .128". I thought the through hole on these countersinks was for #30 drill bits. No. 30 has 0.1285, which is . 0035 instead of 1/8 drill. This tool is designed for #8…
