Works perfectly. Best for cables and connections

I use this to connect a WD Passport 2TB external hard drive to an MBP which then plays music through my DJ software (Serato DJ) to a mixer and then delivers to the computer columns. No delays or dropouts in data transmission. A much better solution than using a key to connect to newer MBPs.

Pros
  • Convenient to use
Cons
  • No automatic

Both had the same problem - constant power cuts

Like many others, I bought this cable to connect an external hard drive to my motherboard's USB-C port. Unfortunately, the first cable I bought kept disconnecting and reconnecting shortly after use. Got a very quick replacement from Revain but had the same issue with the replacement cable. I gave up and ordered Cable Matters and haven't had any issues for the past few days.

Get faster read/write speed!

I compared read and write speeds using Blackmagic Data Speed Test app for iOS on Macbook 12 2017. drive) with USB-C adapter attached (which I purchased separately). As you can see, the results are better with this cable! Adapter.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Don't remember

I've had problems with two external (bus-powered) hard drives that disconnected frequently on my USB-C MacBook Pro. I'm not 100% sure what the actual problem was (low power on the USB cable?, loose connectors, shorts in all 4 of my previous cables?), but this cable was incredibly durable and held up a hard drive connection for a long time , even if it is pushed.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Hard to say

I recommend along with StarTech USB 3

Quality cable. Thicker than other cables as they use heavily shielded cables required for high quality 10Gb/s cables. My Macrium image of the system drive onto an external SSD in a USB 3.1 Gen 2 UASP enclosure was shrunk by seven minutes. A good length too. Don't mess with cheap USB 3.1 cables or 5 Gps USB 3.0 cables. Your external device becomes unstable and works slower. A USB 3.1 Gen 2 enclosure from StarTech Top Speed is recommended at reasonable prices.

USB-C connector comes off too easily

Cable has good memory; there is a certain form he wants to keep. Also, the USB-C end pops out of the port a bit easier than other USB-C ports I've used, meaning that if I move a connected device, it sometimes pops out far enough to lose the connection. EDIT: I'm revising my assessment of the USB-C connector to say it comes out too easily. With the slightest movement, it often simply falls out. Without even pulling on it; just wiggle it a little and it will literally fall out. Change from 2 to 1

Great solution for future old hard drives!

I recently bought a 2018 MacBook Pro and now need dongles/cables to get my old peripherals (namely my external hard drive) to work with USB-C on the laptop. This cable is great because it allows me to connect my external drive's Micro-B port directly to my MacBook's USB-C port without a USB-A to USB-C adapter. However, I ran a speed test using the Blackmagic Read/Write Speed Utility using this cable and my old USB A to Micro B cable and noticed a slight drop in speed when swapping the Revain…

I bought this cable to use with my Seagate external hard drives and to be able to connect to USB Type-C ports. No problems, also tested with Seagate Backup Plus Fast 4TB and Seagate Portable 5TB - no problems when other brands sometimes don't work. This was likely caused by higher power consumption than 1TB or 2TB drives. There are no issues with this cable and it meets Micro-B 3.1 Gen 2 specification. I'm happy with the purchase and recommend it, especially for people like me who prefer to…

Seems well done on computer accessories and peripherals

Two IMPORTANT things to know! With the Dell Precision 7530 Thunderbolt 3 connectors, if you don't insert the end of the Micro B very carefully and just right, the moment you insert the Micro B into the hard drive, the computer will "lock up"! All is not lost. After 5-60 minutes the computer (hopefully) recovers without damage. Always connect the Micro B end BEFORE connecting the USB-C end to your computer and you're good to go. There are several companies that sell bad cables that can literally

Fits my external hard drive (see below)

After reading a few reviews I decided to add my own. I bought it for my 14TB WD Elements desktop hard drive to see if I could get more speed when transferring media/game files. I get more speed than the stock USB 3.0, up to 30-40Mbps, which isn't much, but still faster than the stock device. I haven't seen any posts on this so thought I might help if someone asks questions. I connected it to my MSI B550 motherboard with onboard C connector. I hope this helps anyone looking for answers if this…
