Opened in frost

I bought 2 of these for an outdoor rainwater tank in northern climates. During the winter frosts, a valve in the central chamber that was kept closed broke. No problem with the other valve left open. The only temperature reference on American Valve's website for this product is 180 degrees. So I figured brass might survive the Midwest winter. I was wrong. Updated July 2020 Regarding the 3 sometimes scathing comments below: The storage tank is emptied before the first frost each season, so there

Convenient but may require a thin wrench for easy installation.

Valve itself works as expected, Quality looks good, No leaks. Simply switching on and off is a quarter faster than turning, turning, turning on/off. The problem with the valve is that the nut and threaded portion are not long enough to fit a standard wrench or pipe wrench and tighten them easily in the socket. You'll need a 1-1/8" wrench, about 5/16"-3/8" wide at most. Otherwise you'll have to giggle and fight and swear or put a pipe wrench on the valve body and not use flat head screws as…

Order more despite a few blocks breaking in the cold

Update: This winter we had a severe hard frost which blew all these blocks which I have used in places to water hoses gardens and plants connect to. BUT I am ordering more PLUS screw caps to replace in winter. I don't use these lines in winter anyway, so they just lie there and wait for frost. I unscrew the caps 3/4" and tuck in the bibs. I wish I had seen all the reviews warning me they would crack in freezing temperatures. note. We live in a very old house and all external Hose bibs were old…

Excellent flow and pressure, easy to turn on and off

Package arrived late as our location was under hurricane guard. This was ordered as "used in good condition" from Revain's warehouse, which I normally consider a return. This is a molded Bibb hose so it is difficult to damage and cosmetics are not an issue with this type of product. In this particular case, the union nut holding the locking lever to the valve stem was missing. Together I bought 10 of these valves, 3 from the "Used" list. All others were in excellent condition. It only takes one

Pros

  • Everything ok
