Doesn't work for external hard drives

I bought 7 of these for my company and now 5 out of 7 no longer work and we've allegedly exceeded the return window which is unacceptable for the amount of money I've spent on these 7 items.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Nothing here

Stopped giving me access after 3 months

I paid a lot of money for it. I have many important documents there. When connected, it doesn't respond. Writes "USB accessory is disabled". I tried troubleshooting and none of the suggestions worked. It was too expensive to close. Also, I had VERY important documents that I had backed up on it because I didn't want to lose them if something happened to my laptop. Guess how the joke is on me.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish

Failure at 20% capacity in two cases

We bought two drives and, despite trying, we could not load more than approx. 400 MB of data (20% capacity) on both Use different operating systems and networks, even if files of different types and sizes are used. Tech support offered to reconfigure the devices, but that didn't help at all. Our urgent project was delayed for a few days because of all the problems. We switched to a different brand of hard drive and had no problems. Overall very disappointing.

Pros
  • also understandable for old people
Cons
  • There are new competitors

The best secure USB drives on the market!

This company makes the best USB devices on the market in terms of security. I am CISM, CISA and CCIP certified and have tested many similar devices. They are excellent and absolutely safe. Anything stored on any of these devices can be guaranteed to be safe. In my own testing I haven't found a single downside in over 3 years of using both this type of hard drive and the USB SSDs on offer. When you need the highest level of FIPS security and AES encryption for your data, this is the company and…

Solid HIPAA compliance. Easy setup

Setting up the device was easy. It works well because it's designed to store data from surgical photos and allows me to carry those that keep patients private. However, when I try to transfer JPG files to my laptop to create PDFs, the device keeps turning off, presumably in the laptop settings to save power. It's frustrating. Also, it would be ideal if I could use my iPhone to unlock the device, recognize faces, and lock the device again when the iPhone is out of range. Whatever it is, this…

Pros
  • Easy setup

  • I'm mad

Durable and reliable. My transition to an encrypted hard drive.

These are the best actuators for the job. I work in the safety of industrial control systems and I love these drives. The speeds are excellent for a spinning disc. But that's how a lot of drives do it, what I really like is the build quality and the way the buttons work. It's all physical, so unlike other devices there are no LCDs to break. The solid rubber case can take a beating and I don't worry about it at the factory or in my bag when I travel across the country. It also boots fairly well…

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Weak

I finally got it so it doesn't get blocked and now I'm very happy.

I have had an Apricorn security key for a while now which I really like. In fact, my entire organization has adopted them based on my experience. So I had high hopes for the lock when I needed an encrypted backup drive for my MacBook Pro. Well the damn thing closed so many times it was useless and I thought I wasted my money. The tips I found on the internet for setting up macOS didn't help. Apricorn tech support tried to help, but their solution for a third-party program that supports disk…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel

  • Long wait

Great when it works

I'm a lawyer and responsible for keeping confidential files. Sometimes I need to take those files with me and this device is great for that. I'm always concerned for the customer and the other party if my briefcase is lost or stolen and this device gives me peace of mind when it works. I've bought several of these so far because they keep breaking. For some reason these guys just stop understanding my password from time to time. I use a fairly easy-to-remember 6-digit password, so it's not me…

Pros
  • Design without software - no admin rights
Cons
  • Crumpled

Practical solution

I've used several Apricorn Aegis drives at work and decided to try one for personal use. The case is rigid and does not appear to be easily damaged. The transfer speed is good considering there is a hard drive inside. The cable could be longer, but it's nice to be able to clip it around the device and not have to carry around a separate cable if you don't want to. The only thing I usually have to do on most modern computers I've used it on is adjust the power saving settings on the USB port…

Pros
  • Ultra-fast USB 3.0 connection - transfer speeds up to 10x faster than USB 2.0
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Which it won't. for computers and accessories

I have five of these devices and they all work fine. There is no noticeable loss of performance due to encryption. From the NAS to the USB 3.0 padlock, I've seen top speeds of 100MB/s. (800 Mbps), then the speed is reduced to 62 megabytes per second. I transferred a 2.6 gigabyte movie file in about 40 seconds. Pros: 1. With no software to install, it works with media players and should work anywhere you use a standard USB hard drive. I keep kids movies on a standard drive and mine on a lock…

Pros
  • Uses FIPS PUB 197 military-grade encryption algorithm
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
