Great way to get into routers

I've set up many routes over the years, it's been a job I'm afraid of dealing with lots of different settings and passwords if you haven't . I don't want to talk about using the internet or infiltrating your systems, this router makes it very easy to set up and use. I can't say enough about how easy it was. We've been using this for a month now and we love it, if you're not a super gamer or have more than 12 things using the internet at the same time, this works great, you can give them…

Excellent router/access point router

I bought this Asus router/repeater/access point to use as an access point (AP) as an extension to my main Asus router. Installation was quick and easy and it immediately started working at an incredibly fast speed. It's not uncommon for switches to use up to 20% of their bandwidth for service purposes, but not in this case; I'm consistently getting 93 Mbps from my 100 Mbps backhaul. I usually have to configure my access points and router to allocate channels that don't interfere, but this one…

  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Can be damaged

Intermittently drops internet packets when used as an access point

I found that the Asus RT-AC1200 was causing problems on my Ethernet network when it was configured to be used as an access point (AP). I set up a recurring 1 second ping test to constantly monitor my network's connection to the internet. Ping packets were sometimes dropped when the RT-AC1200 was connected to my Ethernet network. At some point a packet loss interrupts my VPN connection on my work laptop. I bought 2 new RT-AC1200. I had the same problem with both devices when used as hotspots. I…

Terrible super slow router

Pros: Great user interface with lots of features to customize. The QoS setting is particularly great. Cons: 1. Only having 100Mbps WAN and LAN ports which means your giga fiber internet connection or anything wider than 100M will not be fully utilized by this router. I have a 300Mbps Opti-Fiber Verizon FiOS connection. On this router, it only achieves 70 Mbps on a wired connection and 15-50 Mbps on a 5G wireless connection. IT IS TERRIBLE! 2. RAM is very small (64MB). When watching Youtube, RAM

Won't connect

I thought the price was too good to be true and unfortunately I was absolutely right. After initial setup, I had a nice stable time of around 30 minutes where it ran relatively well at 90Mbps with no noticeable issues. However, at the end of that period, the router started resetting my devices and then got "stuck" with no internet until I reset the settings. After that initial crash it could only keep the connection for about 1-2 minutes and then kept crashing until I fixed it. I've tried…

Asus, you're better than this

While Wi-Fi devices support a claimed "concurrent throughput of 300 Mbps (2.4 GHz) and 867 Mbps (5 GHz) for high-speed wireless communications", the WAN (internet cable from your modem to your router) is limited to 100 Mbps. You won't get advertised speeds on a LAN (a device directly connected to the router) or a Wi-Fi setup (a device connected via Wi-Fi) because the WAN is the bottleneck. You can configure the router as a repeater BUT this will result in performance degradation and will…

I have an Asus 1300 series laptop at my work studio in town and I love its many features including the simple user interface. We bought a cottage in Wisconsin and needed a simple, inexpensive router with lots of options for managing bandwidth and guest networks because we rent the house. I found this Asus 1200 series in an open box for only $12 (and they have a lot of returned units here!) and I'm very happy with it. We don't have the fastest internet speeds (e.g. 25MB) so it's nice to have…
