Cost of professional hobby ICE

I will use atMega processors for some hobby applications and my friend advised me to to get started with Atmel ICE. I really want to buy or build another cable for my stand, but in general ICE works great. I'm having some trouble trying to use the Arduino boards with ICE, but I understand that I need to de-Arduino-ize the Arduino boards. This is only part of the learning curve.

Pros
  • Support for JTAG, SWD, PDI, TPI, aWire, SPI and debugWIRE interfaces
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Powerful features at a small price.

I have been using Atmel debuggers for professional development for many years. Atmel ICE, the latest in its family, can work with both ATMega devices and newer Atmel ARM devices like the SamC21. It also does touch debugging for C21, eliminating the need for that QT100 board. Combined with Atmel Studio, this is a powerful development tool. And it costs hundreds less than other ARM debuggers. Whether you are a professional or an amateur, this is a great tool for your workplace.

Pros
  • Supports JTAG, SWD, PDI, TPI, aWire, SPI and debugWIRE interfaces.
Cons
  • Upgradable.
