Good lever in Bremsenteile

This lever serves its purpose. It was bought to replace old levers that had seen better days. Installed with BB7, works fine. Speed dial is fast as advertised. The travel controller, together with the cable adjustment and the speed controller, enables many fine adjustments even while driving.

Pros
  • Bremsenteile
Cons
  • Bad impression

Lightweight and adjustable.

Avid has always made great products and this lever is no exception. Easy to adjust, lightweight and can be used on either side of the handlebar. The lever finish also has a nice subtle texture, which is nice. I've used them on both rims and rims and never had any trouble getting them to work.

A for Feel, D for Clamps

I love the feel and adjustability of these levers. But I like tinkering with my bikes and making changes all the time. If you have a clip that doesn't open very wide, you should be able to move it. Handlebars with kinks, handlebar tape etc. have a very difficult time. Ideal for straight handlebars with detachable handlebar locks or people who don't constantly fiddle with their handlebar setup.

Pros
  • Bike Brakes and Parts
Cons
  • Good for the most part, but...

Better than Shimano XTR Levers

As test riders, we are picky about levers and have found Shimano XTR levers to flex over time over the years, even when the bike isn't dropped on them. Not sure if it's the design or the type of aluminum used, but I went back to the Speed Dial 7 and SL for a different bike. Either way, the design is excellent, smooth operation, and easy on-the-fly adjustments. The lever is primarily used for an Avid BBDB front disc brake (an older BB7 that works much better) and a 180mm rotor plus organic pads.
