TERRIBLE! I bought it as a Christmas present and we just used it. I didn't think potatoes were so short! Only a 2 3/4" piece of potato can be threaded through. We had to cut all of our potatoes in half to fit. I wouldn't call them "fries," more like "chunks." I don't know why the design was made that way it is impossible to put a regular potato in the machine I would not recommend this cutter at all.

The black hole punch broke on first use. I had to cut the potato in 1/2 to get it. The device looks solid, but if you press on it, it looks like it could break. The edges of the handle are sharp and I was afraid I would cut my finger when I squeezed or the handle would bend and fall off. I like the design, but the material stinks. :(

At first glance it looked pretty good and I liked the two mesh sizes it came with. However, it wasn't strong enough to withstand potatoes, for example. The knife began to move after the second potato, and around the fourth try, the arms began to bend. I think if you cut the potatoes very finely - significantly less than the allotted space for insertion - it might work. What's the point though? I don't want 2 inch long fries cut from potato quarters. I'll just use a knife.

My husband bought this for me because we love making our own fries. The product is made of metal, not plastic. However, it is not difficult. The suction cup didn't work. First we tried a smaller grid. The potatoes don't come through. We switched to a large opening grate and when my husband tried to push potatoes through it, the grate popped out and the shredder's metal structure actually warped. This item might be good for softer veggies, but it's definitely not strong enough for potatoes.

I've wanted a potato slicer for soups, stews and fries for a long time. After reading the reviews I decided to try this one. I received the item on Friday, used it on Saturday where it broke after eating some potatoes, and am sending it back on Monday! The potato, when it went through the blades, was cut well, but after a few small potatoes, it didn't go through easily. Maybe there were too many potatoes for the skinny thing.
