roving explained. best in knitting and crocheting

Roving is not like traditional yarn. Consider ripping twisted cotton. Roving can be naturally torn into smaller pieces and usually spun into traditional yarn. If you pull hard on this thread, it will snap. I do not recommend this yarn for beginner knitters. I think it's worth the effort. Just know what to expect before you buy.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Damaged

Good smooth yarn - no knots

I used this yarn to knit my daughter an Alaskan riding hat from Julie King's book on crochet hats that I bought from Joanne. The yarn was very comfortable to work with and there were no knots, neither in pink or grey, nor in black or cream, which I also used to make another black and gray yarn for her. However, if you decide to use pom poms on the ends of the earbud straps, you will need to use a stronger yarn to tie the pom poms.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Very expensive

not good for beginners

I wanted to knit baby shoes but this yarn is too thick and fluffy/itchy - can't be used for my baby shoes. Also, it hurt trying to pull the yarn off the middle! I ended up having to cut it off and start untangling it and I ended up with a big mess of yarn all over my floor! I do NOT recommend for beginner knitters like me. very disappointed. Decided to order another one from my local Joann fabric store instead. waste of money. Besides, it can be easily disassembled and torn!

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • A nuisance

Please research roving yarn before purchasing!

I love this yarn! I usually make a hat and a scarf (3 balls) out of it. As said in another review, know how even yarn works before you buy this item. Do your research before you buy. Roving is like a single layer of yarn that breaks if you twist it in the opposite direction multiple times. As for the pilling, it just rolls off if you just throw it in the washing machine. It is best to hand wash and lay flat to dry. Don't twist or squeeze it. And if necessary, you can change what you made of it.

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Expensive

Very soft but often knotted

Bought as a gift for my mother who is blind and new to knitting. She used a round loom and liked the softness of the yarn and how easy it was to work on the loom. But that was very frustrating as it was very easy to tie the ball. This happened at least 8 times while knitting and seemed to be the result of the way the ball was spun, so I unraveled the whole ball and spun it again. Hand in something less likely to get tangled. The density of the yarn was uneven which caused it to break from time…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Great yarn but see what even yarn is so you know what to expect!

I love this yarn. It isn't twisted tightly, which causes it to "pull around". In my experience, you shouldn't over-tighten or over-knit. Roving is not like ordinary yarn that is twisted tightly, it is very loose, fluffy and delicate until you knit it. There will be a pill if you rub hard. There are not many pills for hats, scarves, hoods. I wouldn't make gloves or a sweater out of it. I've done quite a bit with it and when I had a quality issue Bernat was quick to fix and replace my stuff. My…
