Best Buy: Kitchen & Dining

Bought this for my husband and to say he loves it would be an understatement. Every time he uses it he thanks me for getting it for him. He offered to show me how to use it, but I refused. Why deprive him of the joy she brings him. Seriously, this is a great tool.

Borner V^ Stainless Steel V-Slicer Mandolin

I prefer gauges for slicing other than very thin or thin. My husband and I tried slicing different vegetables but still felt the slices were too thin even after changing blades. For over $70 I wouldn't recommend buying Borner.

I want to give this place a full 5 stars.

I loved the ease of slicing potatoes for homemade fries, thinly slicing and dicing onions. But the downside is the terrible storage box, very cheap plastic and flimsy. When I pull out the mandolin, all the blades fall out. My only complaint is that I wish it was wider too. Kohl would be great for that if the bed was a bit bigger. Otherwise it's easy to clean, I just wash it in soapy water and often just use hot water from a spray bottle on my kitchen sink. It takes up almost no space since I…

Perfect for the right situation

A lot of research led me to this purchase. I've reconsidered the solution. It is a wonderful instrument, most suitable for a large family or a small restaurant, it is large and bulky and takes up space; I had to take a picture before unboxing because I can't for my life bring it back to original condition if everything fits together. I've used it a dozen times. Too fancy for a flea market, too small for Craigslist, it lives in my top closet. I returned to my 25 year old handmade mandolin in…

Replaces my original Borner V-Slicer

Bought the original over 25 years ago during a promotion. When I decided to upgrade, I started researching. And after watching dozens of videos and reading even more reviews from different makes and models, including very expensive slicers, I settled on Borner V6. Why ? Because they are dice. Also cuts tomatoes. If a $200 mandolin can't slice a tomato, I don't have to spend $200. You've come a long way. It has a great security feature. A plate that covers the blade when stored, but can also be…

Overall a big improvement over the plastic model

I have been using the white plastic model of this mandolin for over 20 years and it has started to discolour with use. Stainless steel is much easier to clean, and the improved blade attachment method has made cutting faster and more precise. The blades are also sharper than I've ever remembered from a plastic model, making slicing effortless. As for protection, I've skipped it - it's very bulky and requires such pre-cutting of veggies that it becomes pointless to use a mandolin - so I always…

Very nice mandolin. I would like more width and full storage space.

I'm sure I have a great mandolin! Sharp, easy to use, safe to use. I like that the storage concept prevents accidental contact with sharp blades. I love that this one looks pretty too! Two other improvements could be made: 1) I love that the parts of the mandolin fit into the storage case, but the visor needs to fit/attach somehow too! This is an important component that should not be separated from the rest of the mandolin and the blades! 2) My second wish might be higher than standard, but I…
