I've tried all kinds of cable needles - both a small metal needle with a bend and the one that looks like a shepherd's crook and DPNS and these. I love it. They're shorter than DPNs so they don't get in the way when hanging before or after work, and they're a little thicker at the ends to keep the yarn in place, but not so thick that you can knit off the cable needle yourself whenever you want want. I use one of these needles to knit the biggest braided sweater you can imagine! And i love it. The wood and slightly oversized ends keep my fishing line from slipping and the size is spot on. I held it behind my ear for a while until I needed it, but now I hold it in my left hand (I throw yarn with my right hand) almost like a pencil or imagine someone holding a cigarette when they're knitting smokes.
