These clips are great! I have tried from 1", 1-1/8" to approx. The grips are 1-1/2" in diameter and all hold very tight. I have the "Lehigh 13201 Grip Clip Organizer, Tried Silver, Medium, which should hold up to 1-1/8" diameter, but handles that size. jumped out immediately, and even 1 inch in diameter was not securely held. These very strong hook clips work with mops, brooms, step stools and more. They hold handles/bars from 0.5" to 1.5" in size. They hold the bars securely so even with heavier items the bars won't slide off (8lbs is about as much as I tried). Position them so your thumb can easily press the side labeled "Press" for easy removal of items.
