Good for the price; Buy a better cable if it's critical

I bought this cheap adapter during the COVID quarantine to connect my MacBook to an additional display that only had VGA and DVI inputs . This works well, but sometimes the connection drops when the cable shifts - computer screens go black, work for a second, and then reconnect. It's not a big deal for my use, but if you're buying this for regular use or something critical, buy one of the more expensive adapters.

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Not everything fits

Great adapter - highly recommend

I bought this to use with the Surface Pro 3 Dock to connect to an existing monitor with a DVI port. I've tried other adapters and I have the most problems with the Surface Pro Dock 3's Mini Display Port. This port is a bit deep and many adapters don't connect securely, resulting in the monitor turning off if the cable wiggles. This adapter fits snugly into the port and works flawlessly. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.

  • Quick replacement

great price, lasted 3 years

I have bought 2 of these over the last few years. Same product: the first one was bought in 2014, I would say it was heavily used for about 5 months and then I've used it sporadically for the last few years. In the last month it worked once and then just stopped working. I was hoping it was this connector and not the DVI/monitor end. Luckily, Cable Matters' new $12 adapter did the trick. For the price and durability I would say it's worth it. Thanks very much!

Works perfectly. - Computer Accessories and Peripherals

Works great! There are no display problems. I use this with multiple displays when I commute to work. We have many landing stations available throughout the operation and the units will work with any DVI monitor (HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.). The device is used on a Lenovo Thinkpad T440. I use the VGA port and laptop monitor to enable 3 monitors at the same time - great! Definitely recommend this device. Update: 15 months later - the device has stopped working and I don't know why. I used it every…

Nice solid third party adapter

Pretty small accessory at a significantly lower price point than Apple (this one also seems to be a bit more durable). I've been using it daily for several months with no problems. As with all such connectors, minimizing stress on the cable, particularly at the point of connection, is fundamental to maintaining its functionality. I'm currently using it to connect a Macbook Pro with a Retina display to an older Apple Cinema display. I use two of these and they fit perfectly side by side in the…

Great product priced at $$

I've always been a fan of thicker, well made cables as they seem to be very durable and look good in black! This particular cable was no different, except that the end of the mini display was too thick to connect alongside my other cables. I tried connecting them in different ways but it didn't work. I had to connect both cables and those were the only available ports for the PC. I grounded the end of this wire appropriately. It worked great! I understand this isn't a cable design flaw, it's…
