Description of πŸ”Œ Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter with VGA and DVI - Black 3-in-1 Converter for Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt - Supports 4K Resolution via HDMI

Lightweight and portable Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter for connecting a Mini DisplayPort (Mini DP or mDP)/Thunderbolt 2 port compatible computer to an HDTV, monitor, or projector with HDMI/DVI/VGA; A separate HDMI/DVI/VGA cable (sold separately) is required for this HDMI to Mini Displayport cable adapter. Mini DP to HDMI adapter transmits both audio and video from computer or tablet to HD display via HDMI; HDMI to Mini Display Port adapter supports video resolutions up to 4K via HDMI and flawless audio pass-thru for uncompressed digital 7.1, 5.1 or 2 channels; Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter supports 1080p via DVI or VGA (no audio output via DVI or VGA). Low-profile connector on the Mini Display to HDMI adapter does not block adjacent ports on your computer, has molded strain-relief for long life, and has ergonomically designed treads for easy plugging and unplugging. Gold-plated connectors of the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter resist corrosion, provide rigidity, and improve the signal performance of the Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter. Supports three outputs (one each) from a single Mini DisplayPort.

Every conference table I see has a bunch of keys for people to use. In theory, this works great, only many like to take them with them or wear them out. Not wanting to have multiple keys in my pocket to work with different devices, I took it because at least every projector has an HDMI, VGA, or DVI port. A key in my pocket, no one can steal it (simple) Well made, not massive, so doesn't take up much space, looks very nice. If your computer uses a Mini DisplayPort connector, this will work.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Good but not great

and the only laptop connection on the front is VGA. My computer has a VGA port (which usually works fine when connected to VGA) but in this room most laptops don't see the projector when trying to use that VGA. (I suspect the VGA amp/splitter they have in this room is out of spec). Anyhow, this port seems to be able to handle that out of spec VGA, allowing me to use my computer's Thunderbolt connection instead and finally use my laptop in that room. Also, I've also used it as Thunderbolt to…

  • Complete set

Fixed display issues on my Dell

For some reason I've almost always had a working Dell laptop that was having trouble connecting to various displays at customer sites. The laptop has a built in HDMI output and many of the displays were native HDMI but for some reason it just didn't work 80% of the time (unreliable connector maybe?). I've only had a chance to use this guy a couple of times, but so far this has fixed the issue. It's a small price to pay to avoid display problems right before an important presentation.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Long time

Better Elsewhere for Computers and Accessories

So having two pairs of these for the Surface Dock I use with the Surface Book 2 I can say they aren't very good. They don't always block the highest optimal (or specified) resolution, which needs to be reinstalled. Another problem I have is that Windows loses communication with the adapters when Windows turns off the monitors because they have been idle for a long time or when you lock the computer which causes the monitor to "lose". and any application or window that was on that monitor will…

Pros
  • Easy Setup
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Great addition to my laptop travel bag

I use MS Surface for docking. I've got everything set up in my office, the cables are all nice and tidy, but recently I had to go to a remote location for tech support and didn't want to disassemble my office setup just to take my docking station with me for a little work. . I did this with a monitor screen, but I could actually connect it to a spare monitor at a remote location. Looking through various Microsoft branded interface knick-knacks, I felt like I didn't want to spend so much on…
