I used a pair of these wires to make Category 6 cables and encountered a design problem. This can be a problem with all those pass-through connectors. After the end is crimped to the wires, it is very difficult to cut off the ends of the wires that have been passed through the connector. When you eventually do this, some of the bare ends will be very close together. When a plug is inserted into an outlet for use, it is possible for the ends of the wires to short together. To work around this…

Product Defective

These connectors are defective. Of the 30 connectors used, only 2 connectors successfully passed the post-installation electrical test, representing a failure rate of over 93%. Most of the problems were due to breaks between the inner connector crimp and the cable. It took me days to track down the problems. I'm an electrical engineer with over 30 years of LAN experience and have successfully used Platinum Tools crimping tools with Platinum Tools EZ Pass Thru connectors for many years with a…

Ethernet cabling just got a lot easier

I've been building ethernet cables using traditional no-through RJ45 connectors for years. Unfortunately, I haven't built them often enough to develop the skills required for 100% success. It's really difficult to cut the wire jacket to the right length, arrange the wires in the right order, and fully insert all eight wires into the connector before crimping. I recently added a wireless access point to my network and lost 4 non-working connectors before I got a solid connection on both ends of…

BASICS GOOD GENERAL INTERNET LAN PASSAGE - NETWORK/RJ45 WIRE PLUG

I majored in computer science but went into systems management. Since then I haven't had to crimp the cable anymore. Well, fast forward 21 years and I have a brand new home with no fixed Category 5/Category 6 wiring anywhere. I had to run all the cables through the walls myself. The problem is that the entire pre-measured network cable was either too long or too short. To get the cables to the right length, I had to cut and terminate them myself. I like the pass-through cable better as I think…

  • Something Else

I couldn't wait to try this new connector with a continuous design. I bought some good Ideal FT-45 crimping tools and these connectors. I made two CAT6 cables with these connectors. My excitement quickly dissipated after I connected the newly made cables and checked the Windows 10 network settings and router network settings. It was found that both devices report 100baseT instead of 1000baseT. The previous CAT5e cables I've used always allowed 1000baseT connections. Removed the cables and…
