I don't know how many people will need to split the socket, but I had a socket with a splitter on one plug and another for general use, including charging a cell phone. The socket is not super accessible. This splitter allows me to leave an extension cord plugged in for charging and another outlet for anything: another charger, a work light, a second computer. Try it!

Do you have a very low power device that needs to be plugged in but no longer has outlets or extension cords? No problem. Join this bad boy and open up an extra seat. Excellent design and quality. I have NOT run any high power devices on this splitter as it is not rated for ultra high currents. They may overload the outlet or surge protector. Otherwise it is the perfect remedy for problems. Due to the many reviews a few years ago claiming that the cable was connected incorrectly or even dangerously, I checked the cable received with an electricians socket tester before using it. I have attached three photos so you can see for yourself. The electrical wiring of the socket in my apartment is checked as "CORRECT". I bought one of these a few months ago and it has worked great. So I bought another one and as soon as I plugged it in, all nearby outlets went out. I thought it was the fuse but after reading other customer reviews I found that it turns off the GFI switch. I'm glad I was able to fix this, but this cable isn't working and the seller doesn't allow returns. Presumably this is ONE way to get rid of bad products - let most cables work, but regularly remove the bad ones and refuse to accept returns.

If you are concerned about the polarity of a wire, test it with an ohmmeter to rule out possible home wiring problems.
