I like this type of flux better than the water soluble ones. It stays where you put it and works especially well with 60/40 solder. (Plus, the smell really brings me back :-)) The downside is that it leaves a sticky residue, but it washes off perfectly with 100% alcohol (ethyl, methyl, or isopropyl). I prefer to clean printed circuit boards with mild, low-boiling solvents.
This is the same rosin I've used for over 30 years. Works well, much better than the whitewater based variant, but I think we all prefer what we're used to. The "2 ounce" container was only half full but weighed just over 3 ounces so it's fine. I use this rosin for anything that doesn't require acidic rosin and always get good results.
This solder does not adhere as well as lead-free solder. I've tried lead free soldering and this flux barley works with the right heat. This creates black tarnish and carbon flakes. Doesn't remove anything and forms a layer of slime where the solder won't bond to the copper because it repels it like hydrophobic materials. And I can't solder aluminum or other conductive metals. The only thing he's good at is cleaning the iron.
