Good with cheaper price.

Yes it's not a "professional lens" but if you need a cheaper WIDE ANGLE LENS it might be worth considering. The range from ultra wide to normal is very useful. But this lens isn't perfect due to the rotating front element and plastic mount. However, you can't find a cheap lens that can achieve a 22mm wide angle and USM better than this one. So far I haven't had any problems!

Canon EF 22-55mm: An old but still good lens

I'm using a Canon EF 22-55mm lens on a full frame Canon eos 6D: f/11 is sharp enough. It suffers from severe barrel distortion at 22mm and pin-cushion distortion at 55m, both of which can be corrected with software. Its main advantage is its low weight, only 170 grams! Another plus is the compatibility with infrared photography.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Nothing

Very good for a hobbyist like me

Although this is primarily a wide angle lens, I use it 9 times out of 10. The results are excellent. Even the portraits are good. I only use my other lens (70-210mm Sigma) when I really need to zoom in a bit. AF is very fast. Noise? I have not heard anything. Very good value for money. I will upgrade to Canon 28-105/f3.5-4.5 but I will not sell it - I will use wide angle.

Very portable lens, good for photography and still photography

This lens wasn't designed to be a truly outstanding lens, but it does deliver acceptable sharpness. The 22mm to 55mm zoom range of a full frame camera is very useful for landscape, architectural and group shots. Ultrasonic focus is fairly fast and accurate. While the optical quality falls short of a fancy Canon luxury lens, at f/8 it's every bit as good as most for a lot less money. The weight is also very light, making it easy to carry. I find this lens handy for all but the most critical of…
