not effective good for video

it doesn't turn off the recording or even pause it when you close the screen which resulted in our being unable to film our wedding due to a dead battery. When you're recording the dot is red, but when you pause it turns green: this creates confusion about the weather you're actually filming and results in many hours of footage being wasted when we thought we were recording . (Come on folks, everyone knows that green means "forward" and red means "stop". It was stupid to make it that way.) It…

Great camera at a great price

Considering the price, this camera is outstanding. If you're into the HD cult, you'll be upset that this isn't an HD camera. If you were part of the speed cult, you'd be happier with a Mustang GT than a Honda Accord. But if you want great performance on a relatively small budget, this is the camera for you. Battery life: Excellent Optics: Excellent Low light: Good General lighting: Excellent Autofocus: Excellent Zoom: Incredible Video quality: Excellent (but not HD) Still image quality: Fair…

Outstanding Camera, Best Camera in the Camera & Photo Category

This is an outstanding camcorder. It's not HD, but the picture quality is excellent. The colors are great and the images are very clear. I've been in video production for 8 years and I can tell you that I've always been very disappointed with the quality of most consumer cameras. However, the Canon FS200 far exceeded my expectations. This is by far the best camera you can get in this price range. The only downside I've found is that it doesn't perform at its best in low light. However, this is…

Excellent value for money, very compact, very satisfied overall

I read the reviews before buying this camera. We have switched from Canon's mini DV product and for the price this camera is really worth it. I really didn't want to pay $500-$700 for HD quality. It's extremely compact (amazing how small these things have gotten!) and functional, right out of the box. The battery life is excellent. I love how it stores video on a removable card instead of tapes and I can quickly go through any video clip on the camera and delete scenes that I don't need right…

Canon FS200 good for video

I did some research on this camera before buying it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but who really uses all that extra stuff. He met all my expectations. Very good optical zoom, easy to use. It has great SD video and plenty of recording time on an 8GB or 16GB card. (I have 2 Trandscend 16GB cards.) Battery life is ok, I recommend a second battery as this camera does not support extended life batteries. The USB port lets you transfer videos to your computer for editing with Canon…

  • Questionable purchase for older people

When I was looking for a new camcorder I read several reviews. When I opened the box, I was amazed at how small and light this camera is. I can even take it on a hike as it doesn't add much weight. It's a bit small for my hands but my wife loves it. I like it when movies are written to the card. My laptop has an SD card reader built in, so I don't have to transfer files from the camera via USB. I can just copy them straight from the card. However, I found that I need an AC3 codec filter for…

Good portable basic camcorder

I just used my new FS200 to film our dog doing an agility test last weekend. Built-in microphone is sufficient Very small, fits well in a small "men's handbag" Image stabilization (digital) is good enough for my needs Zoom is very good for my needs Cons: Bundled software is bulky Power button is not the best place (nit) Without a tripod, zooming in and out makes it difficult to keep the camera steady Overall, I'm quite happy with the purchase. The cost was what I was willing to pay and I don't…

Great camera at a great price

The FS200 is very compact, you can take it anywhere. Image quality is relatively good considering the processor and lens. The sound sensor is very good for the built-in microphone. I bought this camera for my son and his fiancee to capture their honeymoon in Cancun. I've also used them as a last resort as a B-cam for last minute wedding videos. I was pleasantly surprised at the good quality given the rather dim light inside the church. I had to touch up the image in Premier to get the correct…
