I bought this sharpener primarily for artist quality colored pencils. After reading the reviews and such, I understand that it's not necessarily meant for wax or oil crayons like that, but I've also read enough reviews to know that people use them that way. A little disappointed with this sharpener. I use it to sharpen Faber-Castel 9000, Derwent Graphic and Onyx graphite pencils and even Caran d'Ache Grafwood pencils. The amount of exposed graphite around the tips is uneven; long lace on one side, barely open on the other. I couldn't tell any difference in the point setting either: a blunt or fine point setting resulted in the same point. The graphite tip was not smooth, it looked "wavy".
