Good sand for the price

This sand works well for my reef tank. It's dusty, so I put it in two batches in a 5 gallon bucket and stirred with my hand while the water drained from the bucket. About 5 minutes per batch and then added to my tank. It was still a little cloudy, but it became clear in the morning.

Pros
  • Features: Made in America
Cons
  • A few small things

Rinse and repeat but completely satisfied.

I ordered 3 125 gallon bags (18" x 72" base) and in hindsight should have ordered 2 after adding 100 pounds of rock and the sand level reached 2". In 1 Pack had to be washed down a lot more than in others. Take a bucket and hose, mix and pour until almost transparent. Last rinse I used was reverse osmosis water. I specifically went for a slightly larger bean size and am satisfied.-very evenly

Pros
  • Grain size reduces deposits
Cons
  • Interval

Coarse bright white granules

I read some reviews that after adding sand the tank was difficult to clean but I pre-rinsed mine for a few days. I ended up adding 80 pounds to my 60 gallon tank that I am planting to add cichlids. I think it's maybe a little too much and could work satisfactorily at 60-70 pounds, but it still looks good. The water became 95% clear within 24 hours. I will level the substrate to my liking and should leave a 3 inch depth at the bottom of my tank. The granules have a diameter of 1 to 3 mm. So far…

Carib Sea ACS00050 Aragonite Aquarium Reef Sand, 40 lbs

Carib Sea ACS00050 Aragonite Aquarium Reef Sand, 40 lbs not that big (grit) what do you think. I have it only washed once with a sieve, there is very little silt, so the grain size is very uniform and clean, but no matter how many times you wash it, you will have some cloudy water, but mine will clear up in a few hours. The color isn't quite white, but under my LEDs (blue) the sand looks white. For reference, this Carib Sea ACS00050 Aragonite is the same as CaribSea Dry Aragonite Special Grade…

Pros
  • 100% Aragonite Sand Maintains a stable pH
Cons
  • Almost everything is OK

A slice of ocean in your home

Great realistic look for an aquarium. Recommended for seawater installation, however I cleaned it thoroughly and used it in a freshwater tank. We didn't have any problems, the fish grow huge and very healthy (we are on the third batch of cichlids). One star removed due to the amount of fine silt in the reef sand. I've rinsed and rinsed and rinsed (I did mention rinsing this thing) to make sure there were only trace amounts of salt (which is actually good for freshwater fish, just not too much),

Pros
  • For use in marine and hard water aquariums
Cons
  • Good but not great
