Excellent substrate for fish and aquatic life

I've been using this for my 55 gallon aquarium for almost a month now. It helps control my pH and my fish love it. Personally, I like it so much that I immediately ordered a second bag.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure

Only if you want black AND white sand

I didn't realize how much white sand was in this mix until it was already in my new tank and I didn't want to try and pack it all back up. . At the same time, buy regular sand if you want all black. I'm disappointed because it ruins the aesthetics of the tank. Well, I like the size of the grains of sand

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Got it but not quite lol

First let me say this is NOT sand, it's fine gravel. N that it is NOT pitch black as listed but also mixed with white gravel. In my case, however, the color is exactly what I wanted. I'm also okay with the fact that it's not real sand, because the "cloud of death" (as I call it lol) isn't that strong. With this substrate, fish can be used on the same day. However, he has to sit for most of the day. The photo I took is day 1 of the GRAVEL lol.

Pros
  • Stable results when tested
Cons
  • You could have gone for a newer model

Ok but the second bag was opened

The first bag I received was great! The second bag was terrible. The package wasn't wrapped in plastic like the first one, so it leaked. The lighting package was completely empty. It was just a dry empty plastic bag. I don't mind the size of the gravel, my cichlids seem much happier. He got more aggressive and guarded his hole which now has sand in it lol. Also, the second bag had MUCH less silt than the first bag. Only 3 stars because the second bag is opened. Still usable as I'm not picky but

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Almost everything is ok

NO SAND! - Aquarium substrate

The description says that the substrate is sand with other things, but they DO NOT tell you that there are so many other things that the proportion of "sand" about It's 5%, so the black 'sand' is barely visible in the bag, it says it's black with 'some white particles', which we thought was fine. There is more white than black in these pockets and it is definitely NOT sand. There is a trick you can use to make most of the white disappear, but the moment your fish gets in the tank and starts…

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Not magnetic but needs to be washed off!

I was concerned that like many other black sands it might be magnetic. This can ruin your magnetic scraper and destroy the impellers in the pumps. After the magnet test, I'm happy to say that this is NOT a magnet. However, when added to water, it's a carefree mess. It's one of many foods that contain "beneficial bacteria" that aren't described in detail (species? The ones that eat and convert ammonia and nitrite?). So you say don't flush. This is bullshit (perhaps literally?). First, I've…

  • Well built
