I have seen many people have this problem when plates arrive broken due to their fragility and careless handling by carriers. I was hoping not to be one of those unfortunate souls who would open the box and see it was torn to pieces, but I was. It's such a disappointment.

The block is broken into three large pieces by a thousand small "crumbs” from the fragments. The blocks will still work, so try not to be picky, but for $30 I'd like a solid piece that I could slide into the pan and easily remove in one piece. Not worth sending it back and waiting for a new one. I guess I just mind my crumbs and throw the crumbs away.

The product is divided into 3 parts. I am a wafer-thin piece of bubble wrap around the package. The box had a large plastic bubble on one side only. The product most likely would not have been damaged if only it had been better packaged. Was able to use 1 as intended in my 32 gallon sanctuary basket. Was able to fit another small piece into my media basket in the tank. Didn't restrict my flow at all. Here we hope it goes well

I'm pretty sure it will work as it's very porous. However, it is so fragile that it just broke as soon as it got into my tank. If you take a corner and hold it there is a chance that it will break (easily at first) due to its weight. If you put something on it, it will break. It is so brittle that I would not recommend this product as it will cause dust particles to pass through the tank if it breaks the material it is made of.
