For the background I bought chalk markers and a roll of adhesive backed chalkboard contact paper. I don't know if it was marker, contact paper, or just a combination of both, but I had a problem removing all of the marker. I can wipe most of it off with a damp paper towel, but it always leaves a shadow of what's written there. The site said the marker could be removed with ammonia based cleaners, but either the cleaners I use don't have enough ammonia to do the job or that suggestion was wrong.
