Disappointing as not exactly the same when looking at alternatives

Chemex have changed production. I broke my original and needed a replacement. It arrived 30% lighter and the wooden collar didn't fit well. Correspondence with Chemex says they are switching to German-made decanters, which use a new process that uses higher pressure and allows for thinner (hence lighter) glass that is more durable. I hope I won't verify that it's actually stronger and there's no way of knowing the validity of their claim. The iconic two-piece collar doesn't have this slightly…

Still very good - almost perfect

Updated review - 2 years later We still use the 10 cup Chemex and will stick with it. In the meantime we have tried the Cuisinart Drip (stench sediment) and the Bodum Drip (stains in the carafe) and discarded both. French press made good coffee but was dirty. During this time we accidentally broke the Chemex carafe 3 times (so be careful). The best coffee is still Chemex.******************************************** ************************************************** ****** ** ************…

Delicious coffee, filigree device

Advantages This pour-over coffee machine consistently brews good coffee. I pair mine with a reusable metal filter for even more coffee brewing fun. I like the size 10 coffee mugs and the curved sponge for pouring coffee into my mug. Note that "cup" means a typical 5 ounce cup of coffee, not a true 8 fl ounce cup. It holds 50 ounces of liquid, not 80. If like me you're looking for the perfect cup of coffee, this will help you make it. Remember that the grind of the coffee and the temperature of…

This is The One.: Kitchen & Dining

TL; DR - Buy this if you love great coffee Background: I want the brew to be smooth and full of all the subtle, deep flavors that make great coffee. A drink I'd want to spend a month's salary on an espresso machine for, but unfortunately my priorities have shifted. I've gone as far as I can with a great grinder, great beans, and a lot of effort with a variety of brewing tools. I'm good at running/cup by cup in grind/ratio/heat/time equations for AeroPress, multiple sizes of MokaPots including a

Coffee, tea and espresso hype

The most important thing you will notice is less bitter and smoother coffee. For that reason alone I give it 5 stars. It's also an eye-catching design that's a beauty queen compared to most other coffee brewing alternatives. They make a much more expensive hand blown version. If cost is as important to you as it is to me, then I highly recommend just getting this cheaper model. While I haven't seen the hand blown one in person, I can tell you it doesn't look or feel cheap at all. Okay, so what…

MARVELOUS! We didn't know what we were missing!

Ok I wanted to wait a bit with this coffee maker before posting my review; to get used to this new (old) way of making coffee. After almost 2 months I can say that we are thrilled! Our 2 year old $100 "upscale" POS maker screwed it up. So we searched for an alternative to the norm, tired of cleaning with vinegar and spending $$$, and lo and behold, we found it! Thoughts below: The quality of the product - it is very high quality and very well preserved. MAKE SURE you are buying the real Chemex…
