I am using this with an Electro Voice RE20 and have had great results. I love this activator so much I used it with Sennheiser 416. This little box is worth it. Recording level is much lower. I get very clear sound in all areas. Essential for anyone using a dynamic cardioid microphone. I highly recommend this activator.

If you have an SM7b microphone, buy it. Don't think about buying it. Just buy it. I mean stop reading this review and buy it now. For example, just click the "Buy" button. Wait, no, click the Add to Cart button and then proceed to checkout. But I digress. Got it. You've really never heard your SM7b properly without it. It boosts the level so high that it is a highly pure signal.

Signal started at -40dB, rose to -30dB with Cloud. Did what it promised but didn't fix the 7b issue so I'm not sure why anyone would use it. I ended up getting more professional and bought a DBX line preamp which worked straight away. 7b is so smooth it really needs a professional amp to increase the clarity. Crazy. Buy a better mic or you need a better preamp like me.

I bought this product to use with the Shure SM7B. I have a Cloudlifter (with built-in preamp) between the microphone and the mixer. This definitely increases gain with minimal added noise. I have a slight hum problem when I keep increasing the gain, but I know it's most likely due to a cheap preamp in my mixer and I don't blame Cloudlifter. Therefore. My only issue with the product is the price as it adds up when you also buy the microphone and audio interface.

Using Shure SM7b with Audient ID44. Without the Cloudlifter, I had to set the preamp knob to about 5 hours to get enough boost, and you can hear a hiss at that extreme boost. I bought a Cloudlifter hoping I could get the same sound and the hiss would go away. I was wrong. With the Cloudlifter I get the same loud sound, but now with the preamp at 2 o'clock instead of 5 o'clock. It also changes the color of the sound. Customer service (cloud support) helped quickly and in a hurry! Turns out I was having problems (see below) because I was using a 1/4" jack in my interface instead of an XLR male. If like me you're not very hardware savvy then you have to do this. Now my $60 interface and $20 dynamic mic can capture audio from a convenient few feet away (before, I basically had to have a mic to capture audio).
