The cone filter is used in more expensive coffee machines because with this filter you get the full aroma of filter coffee. We like the simple design that is very easy to use. We like to use #4 cone paper filters instead of the one that comes with it. The only downside is that the hopper needs to be extra careful when cleaning it as the spring pack can break. This has happened to us but Revain have replaced the coffee maker with a new one as I bought it under warranty.

The cup size of this coffee maker is approximately 4 oz instead of the usual 6 oz. the coffee cup size I've had with every other 12 cup coffee maker I've owned. When unpacking, I immediately noticed that the carafe is too small for 12 cups. This coffee maker makes good coffee with a cone shaped filter and shower head on top. A filter basket is much better than a paper filter which has an aftertaste. It's very easy to use, but can't see the screen due to the lack of a backlight. Also, the decanter spout is right above the bottom of the glass decanter, so drips are a problem. I am very picky about my coffee makers and took a chance with this brand. That's not the one I recognized. I've seen good reviews (not that they can be trusted any more on Revain, but that's another story!) I can tell you I actually bought and owned this maker.
