I really wish this device would keep tea and coffee hot at work but it didn't. As several other reviews say, it keeps the drink warm instead of hot. I would use the word "warm" in the broadest sense as it borders on warm and room temperature. I followed the directions and used a flat top cup and a red (high) setting and no improvement. so that the air does not cool the drink. I tried it and it fixed my problem. So using the lid kept my drink hot!

Tested with all standard ceramic mugs in my extensive collection and none of them worked. The cups do not have a completely flat bottom! The device heats up when you find something with a really flat bottom: a little ceramic heater with aromatic wax really melted on the surface.
